In 1958 the World Exposition took place in Brussels. It was the first major World Expo registered after World War II. it was just in front of the King's Palace in Brussels/Laeken.
The only "left over" from this exposition is the Atomium which became the sign of Brussels, like the Eiffel tower in Paris.
Today nature has again taken over the park and from all buildings of the world exposition there is nothing left, except the Atomium. It is a beautiful park where, when the weather is nice people walk around or picnic on the lawn.
The Atomium is great. I love it, and the park is looking very well maintained.
ReplyDeleteWhat a totally delightful park. Thank you for taking us there.
ReplyDeleteAnd at least they cleaned up the Atomium as well. I remember it as being dull and not very nice anymore.
ReplyDeleteMy parents had visited the Atomium many years ago. I still need to visit Belgium as the only time I was there was for a conference some 5 years ago and we stayed close to the airport.
ReplyDeleteA lovely park.
ReplyDeleteI lived close to Spokane washington who hosted the world fair in 1974. I see it in Dubai.
