Skywatch Friday

1. The school holidays are over and Belgium woke up. There are more traffic jams and school kids with new outfits on the street ! We too had changed our scrabble day, now it's on Mondays again and not on Thursdays, because our painting class has started too .

2. The Lunch Garden menu was "Carbonade Flamande" (Flemish stew) and it's one of Nicole's favorite plates. So we went for the the Stew and afterwards to her home to play scrabble. We should be 4. The phone rang it was Ilona, she was still busy with her sister and the funeral paperwork, so she said she probably couldn't come. We waited and waited but Mireille didn't show up either finally I called her and caught her on a boat on the Rhine, where she made a cruise ! We had forgotten that she couldn't come. Playing scrabble only the two of us was a bit boring so I explained her some new features on her tablet.

3. I got up one day and the only thing I wanted to do was nothing. I prepared my posts, had lunch and then disappeared behind the TV, Rosie kept me company, she was in energy saving mood too.




4. Our friend Monique had never been in Nicole's apartment which is very special. Impossible to describe, because it looks like a house but is an apartment. Nicole had bought a delicious cake and we ate it all ! There was so much to talk about that we didn't see the time flying by and suddenly it was already 6 pm.

5. Painting class started at 9 am, and I hadn't even looked in my bag ! It still stood there as I had put it end June. I decided to give up the finger painting with acrylic and start with pastel again. Fortunately this bag was packed and I arrived in time.



The first day !



Our teacher had a great idea for the poster of the annual exhibition of our masterpieces. She gave us all a piece of a puzzle and we had to paint something on it. When everybody had done so she put the puzzle together and here is the result. Of course it's not yet finished, the text etc is missing but I think it is a real special idea and everybody had the opportunity to show his painting style.

1. When you think about your future what do you fear most? Hope for the most?

What I fear the most is moving house and get rid of all my useless stuff. What I hope for the most is getting a lot of money for it ! 

2. September is National Chicken Month. How often is chicken on the menu at your house? What's a favorite dish made with chicken? What's something you're a 'chicken' about doing or trying?

I didn't know that chicken were honored in September ! Then we shouldn't eat chicken. I love chicken in all kind of recipes, Italian, Indian, traditional roasted, I don't really have a favorite dish made with chicken. 
I am chicken about killing a spider (which I shouldn't do !)

3. What are three things you don't own but wish you did?
A new sofa and armchairs, a bigger Television, other furniture

4. Would you rather be a jack of all trades or a master of one? Elaborate. If you answered one, which one? Certainly not of all trades that would be too much,  but maybe a few, like painting and writing

5. Ketchup or mustard? On what?
On nothing, don't like neither one !

Why do I have the feeling that autumn started already ? A months too early ! I see pumpkins, yellow leaves and wouldn't be surprised if a Halloween witch jumps around the corner. After all we had summer already in April where I collected lillies of the valley due in Mai !

Expat tours


If you do a 7 day tour around a country of course you can't see everything in details. It just gives you an overview of things to see or to do if you want to come back later.

We stopped in Killarney, which won the Best Kept Town award in 2007, in a cross-border competition jointly organised by the Department of the Environment and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council. In 2011, it was named Ireland's tidiest town and the cleanest town in the country by Irish Business Against Litter. So if you are a very clean person this is the place to live !

WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 2 - MACRO MONDAY

I can't believe it ! It's September the month were my miseries start, the entrance to winter and all these months I hate. This year it seemed to me that spring and summer had gone by so quickly !

A classmate from my painting course had moved away from Waterloo into the Flemish part of the country. They had sold their house and wanted to rent an apartment for their "old" days. She had invited us to see her new home. It was so beautiful, I just wanted to stay. She and her husband are real Brussels' people and therefore have no language problems because they speak both fluently Flemish (Dutch) and French. In the Flemish part of the country the houses and rents are cheaper than in the Walloon part. Probably because of the taxes. In such a mini country we have different tax laws !



They have no stairs at all living on the first floor. Two bedrooms are enough for the two of them and the rest is open plan ! Very cosy and very practical, to stay there for the rest of their lives.(as you can see she too is a cat lover !)



They also have a huge tiled terrace and then comes grass. But they have nothing to do not mow the lawn at all until the end of the second flower pot the lawn is fake and the other part is cut so shortly that you don't even see where the fake ends and the real begins. Great idea !

They had also to give up their house because the maintenance became to heavy they had a huge garden. Now they are happy and we had a great afternoon on the terrace even the sun was with us !


On Sunday was a town fair in the neighbour city. Nicole and I made a little walk to see how the festivities went on. But there was nothing special to see, it looked just like last year.



The man left is in my Facebook group "Vivre à Waterloo" and belonged to the orchestra. I took the photos from behind a stand so he couldn't see me, I will surprise him with the pictures tomorrow.



There was a lot of food and drinks all around and I had already enough from only looking ! Nicole found a nice blouse and a  skirt. I found nothing !
