FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

On Monday the gastroenteritis was officially cured, and the restaurant reopened, and most importantly, our games were back too ! A local school had sent us six apprentices, five boys and one girl. Amongst the boys were real twins and it was impossible to see who was who. They had to lead the activities. 

Unfortunately they had chosen "Art" and the art was painting Easter eggs on cardboard plates. I really didn't feel like playing kindergarten games, so I sat in the sun in the park and took my first sunbath of the year ! Several did the same, the person who had given this idea had no idea of old people. Or they had painted wonderful paintings and felt the same as me, or they hands were trembling. There were very few who participated.

I took a photo of the result ! There is no difference between a 6 year old or an 80 year old drawing ! Strange that I have noticed that only now !

Fortunately we played bowling the next day, which was very funny, of course the material was soft ! I won ! (for once)

 

The next morning, Madam Glou glou (our alcoholic friend) asked me if I could drive her to her car, she had been stopped in the evening by the police and was not allowed to drive home with her car. The two policemen were very friendly and drove her home. (If she gets a fine, then it will be expensive and probably she has to give her driver license).

 

Of course I did it with pleasure and we chatted in the car. I didn't tell her that she should be careful I think when you are 86 it doesn't matter, she has to decide for herself.

 

I went shopping with Jeanine, she wanted a special  cheese and I needed my fruits. After that, we had a coffee in a new Snackbar. When we came back they just had finished their "painting" and we joined them for another coffee.

 

Today it was cloudy but warm, 20°C. Since the students had drawing on the menu again, I quickly went to the pharmacy and wanted to wait until the masterpieces were finished. 

 

But there was another student there who wanted to work in special effects in the film industry and who came from another school, she was looking for me, because she needed me to make sounds and grimacing. I also had to make a pub for coffee, I had to laugh, and sneeze. She had asked me if I could do it and I said yes ! I am always ready for all kind of nonsense and she was happy to have found a vintage lady who was ready for that. She will show us the finished work. I am really curious.

HODGEPODGE MARCH 20

1.  I write the Hodgepodge questions so they'll post on Sunday, which sometimes throws me off in terms of what day it is. St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated on Monday, March 17th. Did you mark the day in some way? Wear green? Make a special meal? Watch or participate in a parade? 

Thank you for letting me know that St. Patrick's day was on Monday ! I haven't seen a green thing the whole day, not even a frog or a green pullover ! Nobody knows about Halloween in this part of Waterloo, it's more known in the modern part, because there is the St. John's school. Here are more the oldies of Waterloo who sometimes haven't even left Belgium ! I look on my phone each morning to know what day we have.

2. Do you think luck plays a part in your life ? Explain.

If I'm honest, I've always been very lucky in my life. When I thought I was completely unhappy, I always found even more happiness. I've been lucky in my career, in love, and I've traveled a lot. I'd be ungrateful if I said my life hasn't been blessed with luck. But almost three years ago, my luck ran out when Rick died. Now I have to build a new life. It's not easy, but I'm trying.

3.Of the 15 green foods listed, which one is your favorite and how do you like it prepared? Any on the list that are a hard no for you? In general do you like fruits and veggies? As a kid did you eat them willingly or did you hide peas in your napkin hoping your momma wouldn't see? 

Asparagus, avocado, broccoli, celery, cucumber, grape, green bean, kale, kiwi, lettuce, lime, 

pear, peas, pistachios, spinach

 

I love all mentioned vegetables except celery. All the others I eat with pleasure. I don't remember at all if I liked or not something in my childhood, the only thing I remember now, is that I was never asked. I had to eat what was on the table.

4. What's something that makes you 'turn green'? (with envy or with illness... whichever way you want to run with it)

When somebody doesn't keep his promises or says something bad about me behind my back or if a friendship isn't honest.

I'm neither envious nor jealous. 

5. Did you spend a lot of time outdoors as a child? Doing what? Do you spend a lot of time outdoors now? Doing what?

Oh yes, I always played outside. My mother was afraid I'd make a mess. Until I was 6, I lived with my grandparents in the country, and I played with the farm children. We jumped around in the hay, looked for eggs, and tried to milk the cows. I even got a cow's tail in my face, when I tried to milk a cow. I didn't know you had to tie the tail. 

When at 7 I lived with my parents in Bonn. The town was destroyed at 80 % and our playground were the ruins.We had a lot of fun finding in the basements toys or kitchen things, we didn't think that the house had belonged to a family who was dead perhaps. For us it was a big adventure, our Disney world. Later when I was an adult and knew what had happened, I thought that it had been very dangerous to let us play in the ruins, but at that time the adults were busy with other more important things.

6. Insert your own random thought here. 

Apparently it will be warm and the sun (for once) will shine, so I plan to work on my blog and photos in the morning and after lunch I will sit in the sunshine and purr like my cat ! Then is game time, if it's warm enough outside in our park ! 

I am happy that sun is shining apparently until Friday ! I 

 

 

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

 

 

 

 

A woman came up to us and wanted to sell us a tattoo. I said no straight away, but Dominique wanted a tattoo on her hand. It wasn't a real one, but one like you use for weddings, which you can wipe off after a few days. 

Dominique wanted to pay the price the woman suggested , but I told her she would have to haggle. She couldn't do that, so I did it for her, and after all, she only paid half. She was very happy and kept looking at her hand. I decided it was better not to say anything !

Of course over the weekend we still had to eat in our rooms, although in my suspicious mind, I thought that everybody is in good health, but on weekends there is less staff so it was practical for the management to declare everybody still infected. 

Many of us were bored to death without our daily activities. Of course, not everyone stayed in their rooms unless they were sick, they wandered around in the castle. I occupied myself with my blog and photos and sat in the sun in the park in the afternoon. It didn't take long before there were suddenly eight of us. When it got too cold, we gathered in our restaurant and  I asked for coffee in the kitchen (normally you're not allowed in the kitchen for hygiene reasons), but I didn't care. I had nothing, and neither did the others. The food was once again inedible for a healthy person.

On Sunday it was no better and unfortunately cooler, and we couldn't sit in the sun. The whole castle seemed empty, not even a ghost in view ! I too retired in my room and watched a bit TV. Rosie didn't want to play which was normal as she had played the whole night with her mice and from time to time she verified if I was still in my bed. Of course she woke me up ! Today I tried to play with her so that she would be tired and I could sleep, but the lazy thing didn't even look and exhausted climbed in her basket to do a marathon sleep !
