FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

On Monday it had cooled down to winter temperatures 3°C ! And it was grey what a difference to the day before ! I decided to do the same as Rosie.

I just went next door to Adeline to show her my weekend pictures and ordered a birthday and a Christmas gift for grandson Toby.

My son had set up my new rack to hang up my clothes in the Dressing room.  I started sorting out my clothes, there were many that I had for ages, up to over 10 years as I noticed on some photos.

The next day I hung my clothes and am very happy with the result. I didn't go out except for shopping, I absolutely needed a cartridge for black color for my printer. Now I have to put it inside the printer myself for the first time, it had always been done by Rick, but as he is not there anymore the DIY poster hangs invisible everywhere.. My son had shown me how to do it and I hope it will work. For the moment I turn around the printer as if it was a burning fire !

Today my grandson has his birthday and is now 12 years old ! When I finally found the way out of my bed I had got these pictures, showing  Toby very busy unwrapping his birthday gifts !

That's how looks a happy boy !

I had sent him what he had asked for, a Bonzaï Lego it hadn't arrived yet when we celebrated his birthday here.

and I got a "Thank you", Nonna video back. With me he always speaks French, so he said "Merci Nonna"

The weather is so awful that I don't dare to go out today, it rains and there is a very strong wind which is howling around the building. My apartment is on a corner so it is quite nosy.

There are still a lot of leaves left this year. Last year at the same time the trees were all naked !

I had to buy a mouse (not for Rosie) but for my computer and came back with a little father Christmas and some other decorations. Then I returned quickly home before the wind blow me over the houses !

HODGEPODGE NOVEMBER 17

1. When did you most recently need to 'think fast'? Elaborate.

I don't "think fast" anymore. I live alone, not completely, because Rosie rules my daily life. I can do what I want the only thing which I have to think about is paying the invoices !

2. The Hodgepodge lands on National Fast Food Day. What was the last fast food you ate? What's your favorite fast food? How often do you grab fast food?

am not a fan of fast food at all. The only food I like is a Durum or a Pita which I had often for lunch when I was in Turkey

Occasionally I also eat a Cheeseburger, when I have to (with kids) or when I was on holidays in Eastbourne at the English coast and had forgotten at home all my credit cards and found myself with 50 £ cash for 6 days !! Fortunately breakfast was included in the Hotel room price, but more than a cheeseburger per day for supper I couldn't afford. Fortunately I found a very nice Fast Food, the cheeseburger was excellent the meet and cheese very tasteful and the bread too ! Each day my Hamburger became bigger, I had told the guy my story and with compassion he fed me well !

3. Life in the fast lane, get nowhere fast, on the fast track, not so fast...pick one and tell us how it applies to your life in recent days.

I used to be on the fast track, but not anymore, with the age I became more philosophical what is not done today is done tomorrow or next week or whenever I feel like doing it, as long as it doesn't disturb somebody.

4. Are you a fast walker? fast talker? fast worker? fall asleep fast? stay fast asleep without too much trouble?

I am not a fast walker at all, far too lazy, the speed of a snail would suit me. I used to be a fast worker if my work allowed it (translations) when I am tired, yes I fall asleep rather quickly and it depends if I am in no troubles, I sleep deep and well, if I have some I wake up at least 4 times by night.  The only thing which remained from the past, I am still a fast talker !

5. What is one 'hard and fast rule' in your house?

There are no rules in my home, only the rules I fix for myself, as I mentioned above, I live alone. But there is one rule I respect for myself, I don't run around in a pajama or a jogging suit the whole day, I get dressed and do my make up, even if nobody sees me this day. I don't do it for others I have always done it for myself, I hate to see me in a mirror like a scarecrow !

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Today I've been thinking about why people who know me think I'm a strong woman. I was strong because I stood on two legs. A leg was taken from me at the end of May and I had to get used to live as a one-legged person. Yes, Rick was my second leg and it has to grow back again  so that I can become strong for myself.

Maybe a crutch will help me in the meantime. Every time I walk into the kitchen and pass his picture, I feel a stitch in my chest. Some days I'm fine on one leg, but today I feel like the weather outside, depressing.

*********

 WEEKEND

This weekend was a busy one ! My grandson  will be 12 years old on November 17th. Since he had wished to celebrate his birthday in Waterloo with his best friend Benji and of course his nonna (me). They should come on Saturday. But I had a theater play together with a neighbor which had been booked since a long time.

That was actually good, so my men stayed at my son's best friend's house, which made Toby happy, since his best friend is Daddy's best friend's son.

The play was at 4 o'clock and was so modern and intellectual that nobody understood anything. Besides, it wasn't a lucky choice, two old ladies  were making fun of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's on stage, and as the public were the seniors of Waterloo sitting in the room, there were certainly a lot who, like us, had lost our husbands to this disease.

After the theater I joined them in a little village close to Waterloo.

I know my son's friend since he was little, and they were both together in London, where C met his wife. Together they have a boy same age as Toby and a girl of 16. C. had cooked a bowl of pasta with a cheese sauce and ham, which was delicious. It looked as if he had cooked for a whole army but they ate it all ! The adult friends and the youngsters had an excellent appetite.

It was a funny evening which I enjoyed very much, we had a lot to chat and I talked about my stay in Eastbourne and now C's wife wants to organize a family gathering there ! She is British. At 9.30 I went home, I was really tired ! I was also happy to notice that I could see well in the dark with these special dark glasses which help to see when it's night. Otherwise I would see trees where there are none, and no trees when there are.

On Sunday it was again a wonderful weather and 15°C, and the sun shining in my living room that I had 25° without heating.

and here are the two friends sitting on the terrace mid November, unbelievable !

Toby had wanted a special headphone for his birthday which fortunately I got in time. We then had a birthday cake all together because C, wife and kids had come too. The boys could play basketball in the Waterloo park just opposite my building.

My son made these pictures of us. Now Toby with his just 12 years had caught up with me and we have the same size (1.71 me !!)

At 5 pm they all left C and family returning home and Toby and his Daddy went back to Amsterdam and I was happy that the weekend had been so nice !
