HODGEPODGE OCT 3

1. Hey, it's October...what's one fun thing on your October calendar?

Nothing so far !

2. Thursday is National Poetry Day (first Thursday in October)...do you like to read poetry? If so, what's a favorite poem, or whose poetry do you especially enjoy?

Not anymore, Now I prefer quotes

3. Tell us about something you've seen recently that could be described as 'poetry in motion'

is generally defined as "someone moving gracefully" that's the explanation I found thanks Google.

Besides my cat Rosie I see only a few young people move gracefully, In the third youth it's rather seldom, the bones have become stiff !

4. What's one song on your autumn playlist? Do you have an autumn playlist? If not, pretend you do. If yes, then feel free to share more than one.

Ever since I accidentally heard this version of the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Freddy Quinn sung by Angelina Jordan, I like to listen to it especially now in the sad autumn season.

Nothing else or special comes in to my mind, I listen to music as background because I don't like to be in total silence.

5. Share a quote that inspires you this time of year especially.

“But I miss you most of all, my darling / When autumn leaves start to fall.” — Frank Sinatra,

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I've never liked autumn. Even as a young girl, I felt sad in fall and retreated into my shell. Later I suffered from seasonal depressions in fall, When it was diagnosed I felt better, I could understand why I felt so bad without any reason.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

Fall should arrive by now, but as the weather is so moody and does what it wants I am not sure if it respects the seasons ! No sign in view yet where I live !

FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

Since the beginning of the week the European countries are getting more and more red, nearly all of them are at least orange, but not for long, usually they turn into red too ! People are tired and lots of them panic  and remain at home imagining the worst !

I try to lead a normal life except the mask on my nose when I go out. But Monday we didn't even scrabble, because they all were tired or not feeling well or suddenly afraid to catch the virus. I think we should get together as we did in March, always the three of us and even if we can't sit outside we all have spacious living rooms where we can keep distance.  So I made myself a cosy afternoon, Mr. G. was with his Whist group, now they play once a week in private and only four. The Tennis Club is closed and since March no Whist was allowed. The same with me and my painting class !

Nicole and I were invited by my former neighbor for 15 years, until she was the victim of a maniaco depressive manipulator whom she married despite all warnings from family and friends, and who had .sequestrated her. After 3 years she finally managed to escape ! Terrible story. But now she has moved into a little University town called Louvain la Neuve.

Louvain-la-Neuve was artificially created,  following the linguistic crisis between French and Flemish speaking students,  that rocked the University of Louvain between November 1967 and March 1968. Finally the Walloons were thrown out and the new Louvain was inaugurated on October 20, 1972.

That's why all buildings are not older then about 40 years. I really liked this little town, I had been there long time ago when they just started to build the new University.

We spent a nice afternoon with her in her new apartment, she has left the past behind her and everything in her home is new, besides her paintings.

This is the building were she lives on the first floor. I like the architecture.

The  next day it was really warm 20°C ! I  could have sat in the sunshine, but the wind was so strong I was nearly blown away !

I tried to take a picture of the trees in the strong wind, but of course each time they bent I was too late !

The plastic with which I had covered the garden furniture for the winter nearly blew away and I had to fix it with a cord and put the heaviest cats  on the plastic, now it seems to stay !

And while I worked at my computer and did some laundry, looking out of the window,  I admired the red bush, which had been green and each day became more red.

I didn't go out at all this day, because when I see the empty streets and shops and everybody with a masked face it really doesn't lift my mood !

AUTUMN OR FALL ?

Does anybody know the difference between autumn and fall ? The only difference I personally see is that in autumn everything falls ! The leaves and even we fall back one hour. Maybe that's good for the farmers because the cows get milked an hour earlier, but for us office people, we come home when it is dark. Not very enjoyable.

Lots of people find the autumn colors wonderful. That's true, if only they would stay the whole year and not fall on the street or in the gardens en masse ! The streets are slippery and the statistics say that most of the car accidents are caused in fall, when the leaves fall

Hospitals have to deal with some broken legs thanks to falling fall leaves.

The beauty doesn't last long and then only ugly brown leaves remain on the street and the trees are all naked besides the firs and some others.

In our aqua gym garden there were so many leaves that a machine had to be hired. (Therefore the price of the season card increased, and didn't fall !)

The city too does a good business, because all these leaves have to be collected and put in special paper bags.

These paper bags of course are only sold by the city !

I think by now you have understood that autumn/fall is not my favorite season !

ESCAPING TO THE SUN AND WARMTH

While this post is published

I am sitting in the plane taking me to the Red Sea in Egypt. This afternoon I will be there, enjoying the beautiful hotel, the very good food and the warm weather and sunshine.

Autumn and winter is just not my season, it makes me moody and depressed.

Waterloo's Lion is hiding behind naked trees

it's dark and humid

it rains

and the stripteasing trees make a mess !

When I come back I hope I will run again like a car, the tank full of petrol, to be prepared for Christmas ! For the moment I don't enjoy Christmas decorations and preparations at all !

Next time I will be blogging from my little tea room/cafĂ© in the hotel  !

And for those who are worried that I dare to go to Egypt, I can tell them it is not dangerous at all where I am going !

IT's GETTING COLD

When I got up this morning and looked at the temperature outside, I couldn't believe it ! From one day to the other we had moved into winter temperatures ! It was only 3° (37 F). I looked at the clothes I had worn yesterday and started freezing, and even more when I opened my blog and saw my profile picture !

Apparently summer is really gone although the trees around our garden are still green and show now sign of autumn. Strange.

So I started to dress up warm at least in my profile picture and then I will dig out my winter clothes !

Now starts the time I really hate and it makes me angry when everybody says that the leaves on the trees are looking so color and beautiful ! I am blind, I don't see this beauty, I just want to spring right into spring, but my legs are not long enough.

Fortunately I return into warmth of late summer days next Sunday. I am invited by my friend Claudie to spent some holidays at the French Rivera ! Which certainly will give me some energy to go through the short, dark winter days.

I think that is the best solution after my holidays !

WHAT AUTUMN MEANS TO ME

Jenny Matlock

Jenny asked us to show "anything autumn". I am jalous of people who live in countries without autumn ! I would be happy with spring, summer and winter. 3 seasons are enough.

In autumn it's usually humid or rainy, and everything looks sad. The trees and bushes lost their green dress and the yellow or brown leaves are laying on the street or sidewalks which looks dirty and you risk to slip and break your neck ! In the woods it's not better.

The flowers are fading and the once blooming gardens look dull. On top of that we have two official holidays celebrating sad events, but which of course are interesting for working people because they have a day off. If it falls on a Saturday or Sunday the Monday is off which makes a long weekend.

On November 1st it's "All Saint's day" where all people use to go to the cemetary, once a year. They clean and flower the graves. If it's not possible to go, because of laziness or health reasons, there is a special service who cleans the graves and puts flowers on it. Of course you have to pay for that, but meanwhile you can spend your long weekend at the sea or in the Ardennes or in your cosy home. Cemetaries look rather grey and dull the whole year long except just before or after "All Saint's day", wjere it looks colorful.

The other holiday is "November 11". Only a few people know for what reason they don't have to work, it was the end of the First World War ! There are maybe one veteran left (he still was there last year) so veterans from WW II are there when the King puts a crown at the war memorial.

So honnestly autumn is not really a season I enjoy !

AUTUMN COLORS ??

Jenny Matlock
more participants at Jenny Matlock's Alphabet Thursday

In my part of the world which means Belgium, the trees are on strike and still very green. There are no autumn colors to see,

not even in the Ardennes, where it's usually colder than anywhere else and the woods are still green and not a single yellow or red leave in sight and these pictures were taken on Sunday !

Even when I look out of the window, everything is still green. And honnestly for me it could stay that way the whole year long. I don't like autumn and winter at all ! I think I am born on the wrong side of the world.
If you want to know how I feel about autumn just click here  "About autumn"

Besides the Boutiques nobody does autumn decorations either. I was the only one amongst my friends and even in the streets you don't see anything. Halloween is not a big thing either it just moves in slowly, slowly a little more each year. In some big stores you find Halloween decoration now, which didn't exist 5 or 6 years ago. I learned all about that on American blogs.
