SUNDAY SELECTION

The Hougoumont farm was the place where Napoleon lost the battle against Wellington and his alleys. You can still visit it today.

Close to the farm stood three oak trees theywere about 300 years old. You can see them below on the picture

The three dead oaks still standing

and the bloody battle at the farm

Here is a picture I took when my friend Nicole her dog Charlie, a golden Redriever made a walk to the farm to watch the renovation of the farm. The tree in the middle had a big hole, but for Charlie it seemed a bit small to us.

Before we could hold him back, Charlie had squeezed himself in the hole ! Of course very interesting smells in there. Nicole was very worried that he couldn't get out again, but like Udini he did, when he had sniffed enough.

Last Thursday we had a terrible storm and this time the middle tree fell down after 300 years and took with it  Charlie's hole ! Now the scientifics are analyzing the trunk, pull out the old balls which are still stuck in the old tree and it will probably remain like that as a memory ! We don't know yet.

and here is our tree researcher in his full glory.

1. "The cure for anything is salt water-tears, sweat, or the sea." (Isak Dinesan) Would you agree? Of the three, which has 'cured' you most recently ?
Definitively the sea !  It contains salt like in tears and sweat but I prefer to swim, then to cry and sweat !

2. What's something you can't eat without salt? Do you normally salt your food a lot, a little, or not at all?
I eat everything with salt, I am rather a salty girl than a sweet one !

3. Sands of time, bury your head in the sand, built on sand, or draw a line in the sand...which sandy phrase could best be applied to something in your life right now?
I never bury my head in the sand, or built something on sand, sands of time, doesn't fit either so I think right now I draw a line in the sand ! Once I have an opinion or a decision on something, I don't change my mind.

4. A favorite book, movie, or song with an island setting or theme?
Island in The Sun

I love this song, it reminds me of my youth, although at that time I didn't understand all words. My English wasn't good enough.

5. Yesterday-did you run your day or did it run you? How so?
I ran my day without ruffle or excitement

6. You're on an island holiday. Will I most likely find you parked in a beach chair, shopping in town, on the back of a jet ski, or snorkeling off the back of a catamaran?
Parked in a beach chair in the shade with a book for sure !

7. What do you think we humans most take for granted?
That's a very difficult question ! Some humans take everything for granted others nothing,  Honestly I don't know, I think I personally take everything for granted !

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I am repeating myself each week ! I want spring, warm weather and to be able to go out !!

Remedy for depressed people

*********
WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

1. Let's all think happy thoughts...share one of yours here.
The only happy thought I have for the moment is, that I am going on holidays to the Red Sea in Egypt for two weeks on the 26th !

2. There's a Chinese proverb that says, "If you want happiness for an hour take a nap, if you want happiness for a day-go fishing...." What say you? If you want happiness for a day _____________
I certainly don't go fishing and kill poor fishes ! And a nap during the day makes me dizzy and then I am in a bad mood ! I am happy when the weather is sunny, I can go out, or just watching my cats playing, or going out for lunch with friends.

3. Where do you go to decompress from the world around you?
Behind my computer

4. What song never fails to make you happy?
No song makes me happy, not even the song "Happy"

If you want to see a "Happy" Brussels ! (made after the terrorist attacks on March 23)

But I love "The show must go on" from Freddy Mercury.  That puts me in a swinging mood when I am depressed !

5. Wednesday is National Fast Food Day. Should that be a thing? Apparently it is, so tell us what's the last 'fast food' you consumed? If you were putting together your own version of a 'happy meal' what would you include? Never heard of a National Fast Food Day, and as it is "National" I don't think we have that here. The Belgians (except the kids) are very much against fast food. I don't remember having eaten fast food except Pizzas, if these are fast food !

6. In a few sentences tell us why you blog.
I love writing and I am happy when people read what I write ! BTW this is the answer to n° 2 !!

7. List seven things you're feeling especially grateful for today.
Seven things ??? I can't even think of one !

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I wished my sprained ankle would be completely healed !

YEARLY FLEA MARKET IN WATERLOO

Each year there is a very big flea market in Waterloo, where many people try to sell their old or less old stuff. From clothes, over cameras, toys, tools, to cutlery, plates and dishes, you almost can find everything.

It was Whit Sunday, cold and windy, but that didn't discourage people to display the things they wanted to sell, and Nicole, Charlie and I went for a walk to see if we would find something by any chance. We didn't find anything, only Charlie did !

For the market the streets and side streets were closed.

A man sang and played guitare

The mini skirt wasn't quite adequate, despite the Father Christmas boot and the wool one.

Warmly dressed for winter and not for May

Lots of things to buy !

and then our walk really started ! Charlie had discovered fluffy toys and wasn't interested in clothes or other things at all. Therefore he pulled us from one basket to the other and we had nothing to say anymore !

Of course he wanted to take out one which he liked and was not happy when he was forbidden to take any !

so he sniffed

and inhaled

and Nicole pulled

Fortunately at the end somebody offered him a little elephant, which then he carried around on the market, while people laughed, and laughed. We, or rather Charlie had a lot of success !
