WHAT ABOUT GREEN ?

Together with friends we were talking about colors, and what is in fashion for the moment, as all new houses are painted in grey outside while inside brown and black is dominating. I love warm colors like red, orange and a warm sunshine yellow, but I don't like green. Green is a mixture between blue and yellow, which are called primary colors. From there on you can mix all shades of greens.

But I love green outside in the nature in the soft patchwork hills of England or in the woods or parks wherever I see green. I would never paint a wall in my house in green, not even a light green. To me it looks freezing cold in a house. The walls of waiting rooms at doctors or in hospitals are often painted in green and the surgeon wears a green outfit which would be the last color you see before you go to paradise or hell, I mean if something goes wrong.

Besides the green fields, pastures, woods and yards I also love green jewelery stones, like an Emerald for example, or Malachite or Jade. But I would never wear a green cloth, it makes me look like Frankenstein's wife, it just doesn't fit to my skin and makes me look greenish.

Culturally, green has sometimes contradictory meanings. In some cultures, green symbolizes hope and growth, while in others, it is associated with death, sickness, envy, or the devil. The Islam venerates the green, as it expects paradise to be full of lush greenery. I think our paradise is rather light blue with fluffy clouds. But I am not sure as I haven't been there.

Political groups have choosen green as a symbol of environmental protection and consider themselves part of the Green movement, some naming themselves Green parties. Green parties are very practical, because they are against all governments in all countries, whatever decision is taken. People who don't know for whom to vote, vote green, green is good for everything, for the environment, the food in short for our well being.

This said, it's all a matter of taste. My mother for example loved green, had a green kitchen, green bathroom, green toilet and wanted to convince me to love green. Therefore she had chosen our guest room's bathroom all in green, the bathtube and the sink, while I was in hospital giving birth to our son. Mr. G. of course, who has no idea of colors and doesn't even see them and wouldn't be able to say if a pink elephant is real or if it is the grey one, had no objections and 35 years later I am still with my green toilet and sink ! The shower cubicle meanwhile we replaced into white.

These pictures represent the kind of greens I love.

except in hospitals because the green they have is awful green but green comes in all shades and it can become a very soothing color for the house. I also love pale blue the color of a sky

  2. Oh what a alovely post! Too bad you're still stuck with your green toilet after all these years! Colour blind people (who are mostly men,) confuse green with blue. In fact most men (my dad was one and my husband is another) event though not colour blind, swear that green is blue and vice versa. I don't actually buy green clothing although I have ONE blouse which I was wearing in a photograph while on safari so I'll probably post it soon. If you want to see real grey elephants, check my post today. LOL! Hope you're keeping warm. (Does it rain now in Belgium or does it snow?) Hugs Jo

  3. I had to laugh at your post. I LOVE green. The walls of my kitchen and living room have been painted green. LOL. My mom said I have always loved green. When I was old enough to choose my own clothes, shoes, blah blah, they would almost always be green. Hahaha. And that hasn't really changed, even in my adult years.

  4. My mother would never wear green. She had a very bad experience as a youngster wearing green and was always superstitious about it.

  5. Interesting post about green. To me green is definately an outside color. My favorite color is blue!

I've been thinking about what you said about paradise - blue with fluffy white clouds. It could be, but I'm looking for the gates of pearl and streets of gold! (Revelation's description of Heaven). But usually I think of Heaven or Paradise as like the Garden of Eden - all lush, green and blooming beautifully!

  9. That was a fun post. I feel for you and your green bath fixtures. When I met my husband he had an MG car, in the British racing green colour. I call it wine bottle green and I like that dark colour for sweaters. I also like olive green, like in drab army trousers and jackets, to go outdoors. Of course, in the country where I live, the USA, they all love green because it is the colour of the dollar – the mighty dollar! I like many colours - it depends on the day, the weather, my mood, etc. Thanks for coming to my blog and leaving a comment.

  14. Interesting. I love green as it appears in nature but as a decorating color, whether inside or outside my house or in my wardrobe, not so much. I wonder why that is?

  16. Green is such a restful color, and for landscape painting I use forest green, olive green, gold green, blue-green, etc. Nuances are limitless with green!

  17. Gattina, such lovely photos! In the south (as in Gone With The Wind)green represents money, and on New Year's day it is customary to eat collard greens so you will make money in the coming year!!

  18. It is a great G word! Funny thing green has come to life in an interesting way lately...I just learned my oldest son HATES green, and duh, of course never wears it...it's not his wife's fave color, but more rooms in their house are GREEN! Even their bedroom...hmm, .....hmm.....

  19. Great post Gattina :)

I love green, even inside my house. I am sitting here looking at my green walled living room and thinking of my green carpeted hall. I wouldn't like a green sink and toilet though. When we arrived at this house, the bath was pink - horrid!! Now, it is white :)

  20. Love your take on Green! And like you I love seeing green outside. BUT, I also love green inside, if it's the right shade...like a sagey color. Not Christmas green! G is also for Gattina:)

  22. Looking around my office I realize how much I love green! I think the majority of the walls in my home are painted some shade of green.

    Ames' comment made me laugh!

I do trust people who don't like green...just not nearly as much - ha!

Thanks for a grand link to the letter G.

    A+
