What a good idea. In our city centre, the main street is a mall...with wall to wall people! All the streets around the mall are in a grid pattern, so it makes it easy to drive around...except you have to remember which streets go which way. A lot of them are one way only.
Hi Gattina,, what a fantastic thing to have no cars around the City streets even if its only once a year. Im still trying to get the dust out of the house as I was shopping when the storm hit and had left my windows open...
You asked if you recognised the place in my photo. It is in fact the De La Warre Pavillion in my home town of Bexhill-on-Sea near Eastbourne. So quite possibly you did!
I think EVERY country (or state... or city) should do that once a year! Or more! That is a GREEEAT idea! And think of the fuel saved - in just that ONE day! That is GREAT!!!
What a great idea. All cities should do this - at least once a year.
ReplyDeletebikes and skates.. nice shots..

What a nice day without the smell of carbon monoxide. Happy WW! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW! It has been a loooooooooong time since I rode a bicycle or roller-skated...
ReplyDeleteI invite your blog readers to see Anti-Sarah Palin rally up in Alaska on my WW-post this week. Not much coverage of this event in the MSM...
peace, Villager
Perfect catch for WW! Hope you'll visit my ww post too... Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteso how many bonked heads arrive at the Emergency Room from roller skating fools.. hee hee.
ReplyDelete(I did a lot of roller skating as a youngster. Now I'm sure I'd break every bone)
It must be great to have a bicycle-and-skates-only day on the roads once in a while.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like fun! Wouldn't it be great to do more bicycle riding?

ReplyDeleteFantastic idea - we should definately have this in the UK.
ReplyDeletePeople need to stop and think before using their cars
Streets always look vast on Sundays! And the quiet is palpable...
ReplyDeleteHow fun! My husband and kids would love that (I don't ride myself).
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I should start this carless day in Singapore! How fun!
ReplyDelete*starts planning*
*writes to Prime Minister and Transport Minister*
That is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! America should follow your country and do this also!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a sweet comment on my funny doo doo Wordless! LOL
Have a glorious day!
What a very nice city! I hope to visit one day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty city and what a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Many people where I live walk, ride bikes or skateboard everyday instead of driving.
ReplyDeleteNo cars sure makes for better photos as well.
Wow... I don't know what would happen if we did that here in Chicago, but I'd love it! Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks quite surreal, doesn't it. It's a great idea. I like to ride my bike, but I'm scared of the cars!
ReplyDeleteWow! So environmental friendly too.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great day to be in Brussels!
ReplyDeleteYou asked if you recognised the place in my photo. It is in fact the De La Warre Pavillion in my home town of Bexhill-on-Sea near Eastbourne. So quite possibly you did!
Grrrr-eat shots! I've bever been there.
ReplyDeleteWonderful ... I wish when I was visiting Brussels in '99 there'd been such a day ... I never got much beyond Grand Place and the train station ....

ReplyDeleteIt must have been an international thing, there was a similar event going on in Lissabon, as well! Good shots, it looks odd huh?
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it should be scheduled more often :-)
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of it before, so I doubt that we've had it here in Sweden. Maybe we'll start soon....
