THE CAMELS AND I

I know that cats and dogs like me or even love me, when we met. I am not afraid of dogs neither of cats and they must smell that I won't do them any harm. If I meet a dog or a cat it doesn't last long that the cats settle down on my lap, and the dogs come towards me and wave friendly with their tail.

What I didn't know was, that camels love me too ! But they are a little big to sit on my lap so I haf to do the other way around.

It was not difficult to climb on its "lap"

Finally I was comfortably installed in the saddle

It swung me softly through the sand

and checked from time to time if I was still there

Sometimes his owner left me alone and it followed the others, or tried to give the neighbor girl a kiss, which made me slip in my saddle !

Far too soon, only half an hour, the ride ended and I had to say good bye

What did my camel do ? It fell on the sand and rolled around like a happy cat or a dog !

It was quiet impressive and I had to watch that he didn't roll against my legs !

at the end it gave me a big smile and said good bye !

I wished I had a camel here and could do my shopping with it, riding from our house to the shopping center and watch people from high above ! It's certainly quiet easy to find a "parking" place for it.

A PINK ELEPHANT ?

On one of our excursion along the English coast, we stopped for a coffee. I ordered a medium black with sugar. I was more than surprised when I got my cup which had the size of a potty ! I wondered how a big one would look like ! I couldn't drink it all, although I am used to strong Italian espresso this was really too much. After a while I felt "flying" !

I admired the beautiful real typical english landscape and the color shades of greens. Never ever I have seen so many different greens then in this place, not even at art school !

an old farm house had been transformed partly into a café/snack bar where we had a Cornish tea with homemade warm scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream. The farmer's wife and daughter served themselves. It tasted heavenly ! On the way back home, Anne suddenly exclaimed : A camel ! Doug who was driving and I saw nothing and told her that probably she will see pink elephants next time. A camel in this english landscape ! We laughed. But she insisted. Finally Doug drove backwards and what did we see from far

A camel standing there like a statue !

and it was a real one, because it moved ! That really was quite insolite.

and behind it looking at us from far was a Llama ! We couldn't believe it. We got out of the car and called the camel by all names, but a camel is a camel and on top of it seemed to be deaf.

We got back into the car and a little further another surprise, no cows or sheeps as it should be but a whole flock of Alcapas !

I had never seen them grassing peacefully on a pasture just like my traditional cows and sheep would do ! Somebody must have had the good idea to raise future cardigans, pullovers and other knitted clothes on his farm.

MY LOVE STORY WITH CAMELS

I knew that cats usually love me, but I ignored that camels love me too. The first experience I had on our way to Ouarzazate, in the very south of Morocco. Near the restaurant we had stopped for lunch were camels. The guide proposed that someone should give a bottle of water to the camel. While the others were still thinking if the camel would spit and bite, I took the bottle and gave it to the camel.

See, it looked very happy ! To thank me he then throw the bottle away and tried to eat my cap !
I just could run away leaving my cap, which I picked up later (slighly damaged). Apparently the camel didn't want to keep a souvenir of me. I am deeply disappointed.

My second experience I made with the camel which took me through the Sahara to watch a romantic sunset.

Here you see the heads of my Berber and my Camel. Proudly I sat enthroned on my camel and tried to take a picture of his long eyelashes. But it didn't work. It was like sitting in a shaking boat.

When we stopped and I was sitting besides him because the group was dispersed a little all over the place to watch the sunset, he suddenly pulled his tongue out and made a funny noise.

Then he rolled to the side and on his back

I quickly had taken out my camera to immortalize this event. I was only a very little scared that he would fall on me but no, nothing happened. I am still alive and not reduced to a pancake.

Then he layed down happily and a man of my group took this picture.
