I saw Maxine life in a restaurant !!

1. The only day where the sun was shining, although it was cool, was on Monday !



So after acqua gym I finally had the opportunity to plant the little deco cabbages. I like them natural, but lots of people dye them and they really almost look like a big rose. Of course Arthur had to check !

2. Although I don't like autumn, I like to decorate ! Therefore I decided to dig out the autumn stuff and changed my season basket from spring/summer to autumn.



and here is the result. When you enter our house the first thing (besides me or Mr. G.) you will see is this basket, unless it's cat Arthur, who is always very curious to see who rang the bell !

3. I had to do some shopping because my son and family will come over from Amsterdam and spend the weekend with us.

 

This  "Picard" store is specialized in catering/deepfreezed plates and opened a shop in Waterloo. It belongs to a French store chain  and from the first day of it's opening this shop is always full ! I knew Picard from my stay with Claudie in Southern France, because she also buys things there, apparently it's the best store for deepfreezed good and healthy items also regarding quality/price.

They have a big choice of delicious plates from all countries or deepfreezed vegetables, meat, fish, seafood etc, if you want to cook yourself and you can even get their cookbook !

There is also a big choice of delicious cakes !

It's a paradise for people who live alone and don't cook anymore or for elderly couples, or when you have unexpected guests, it's very interesting for me, because it is nearly just around the  corner. This time my guests are not unexpected, but I catched a cold and don't feel well enough to cook.

4. I spend the day at home caughing like an old locomotive,


I drank a lot of tea and took some cough syrup which was quiet strong and made me sleepy.



I just could do like Maxine worked a little on my computer and was at  9 pm my bed. I slept like a marmot almost for 10 h.

5. I started to feel better and tried some household scores ....







and then I thought I'll do like her it is the best way to tidy up before guests arrive, at least they can leave me a message. On the other hand it's also more logical  to clean after a visit then before, to avoid double work. The only place which really has to be super clean is the toilet (restroom, bathroom ...) because there people have time to look into the corners !

OUT OF SERVICE

My son and grandson are visiting us for the weekend, so I am busy with grandma duties and realize that Maxine is right !

I MET MAXINE IN BRUSSELS

Never in my life would I have imagined to meet Maxine life in Brussels or more exactly in Waterloo in a restaurant, where she had lunch with an unknown man.

I recognized her immediately and faked to take pictures of the open fire behind her. She didn't notice that I took pictures, I suppose she probably was spending some time in Belgium, because she is completely unknown here. Nobody knows Maxine. Must have been heaven on earth for her to once be able to eat in peace and icognito. Only there was one bad woman .... me !











PS. For those who don't know Maxine : Maxine is a comic character featured on Hallmark greeting cards and other products. She first appeared on greeting cards when Hallmark launched the Shoebox line of cards in 1986. Hallmark artist John Wagner created the character. She is known for her cantankerous and cynical attitude.

SOME FUNNY NEWS & MAXINE

With all the depressing News we hear lately at TV, I appreciate when from time to time there is something which makes me laugh. For example a 81 year old man who hated his 42 year old neighbour, drilled a hole in his floor and injected ammoniac in a syringe through the ceiling into the bedroom of the poor man. He woke up because it stank terribly in the room, could just escape and alerted the police who took some time to find out what had happened. I just imagined the old guy drilling a hole in his floor ! some people really have imagination.

A woman was sentenced to 1 year of prison with probation, because she had already got a warning. The problem was that the poor lady was so loud during love making that all neighbours had complained. I hope that now she puts a patch on her mouth if she doesn't want to spend a year in prison.

Our minister of retirement (we have ministers for everything in Belgium) showed up in parliament completely boozed and held a hilarious speech which of course next day was on YouTube ! Our President, and the Government were not amused !

In a town near Brussels a 56 year old woman was arrested while she painted Graffitis on the police building. She has done this for one year and nobody suspected her. But this time she was filmed by the video camera of the police. She had also decorated the city hall and other public buildings with her art. That gives me an idea where I could paint cats during nights whenever I can't sleep !

TO WEIGH OR NOT TO WEIGH and Maxine

After the Christmas and New Year festivities, I noticed weight increase and diet became an important subject on blogs. Nearly everybody wanted to loose some weight and nobody wanted to gain some.

In the past I never weighted myself. It didn't came into my mind because I could eat like a horse and my clothes still fit. Until one day when I had my yearly check up at the gynecologist. She asked me to step on the balance looked and stated : You weigh 80 kgs ! (176 lbs) I laughed and said that this is completely impossible and that there must be a problem with her balance. She pretended not, but I didn't believe her.

First thing at home I climbed on the balance and saw the numbers raising. I looked once, I looked twice I put my nose on the scale, the number didn't move it was 80 ! I couldn't believe it ! and my clothes ? I looked in the mirror the front and from the side and realized that I had got a belly and that probably the difference of my normal weight of 65 kg (143 lbs) and the 80 kgs now must sit exactly there.

In my whole life this had never happened ! I was 60 and found myself big like an elephant. But as always when I decide something I drop from one extreme to the other, I stopped cake and chocolote immediately, ate nothing during the whole day and only the half of what I usually eat in the evening or even less. My stomac shrinked and my weight too. In a week I lost 10 kgs ! I wasn't quite satisfied, but it was better then nothing.

As I am quite tall 1.72 m (5.6) people hadn't realized that I had put on weight because I used to wear large tops. But now I saw it. The other 5 kgs took a long time to go away which meant that the overweight I had was really not normal for me that's why I lost it so quickly. Ever since I keep an eye on my weight, but it is stable now as it used to be before and I can eat like a horse again, but I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, chocolate and cakes doesn't say anything to me anymore and I only eat it occasionally.

I know for some people it is very hard to do a diet because often there is also a psychological background. People eat to comfort themselves and then of course it's a question of predisposition. Some will always be a little round others always a skinny minnie.

The fattest people I ever saw in my life was Madison/Wisconsin. I couldn't believe it. Even the fattest one at home was slim against these men and women. They needed two chairs to sit down ! One for each bottom half.
