WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 21

It was a rather quiet weekend, Saturday it was still warm and we were all outside and played a little game, we had to find out the job that was described and then jobs that no longer exist, such as a man who lit the lanterns in the evening. 

We were able to sit outside until 5 a.m., then it got a little cool. 

On Sunday the sun had disappeared and it was no longer possible to sit outside, so we stayed inside. I don't know if the weather was to blame, but somehow we were all like sleepyheads. 

Tomorrow a new week begins and I believe although of today it is officially autumn, that we can still have summer temperatures in November, there is no season anymore.

 WEEKEND

Saturday I wanted to go out a bit, but the weather was so awful that I thought I will catch a cold/Covid,

 Therefore I sent my Christmas cards not by snail mail but by email. Our mail is so slow that I would have to sent the card at Easter so that it arrives at Christmas. The day went by so quickly and while I watched my film in the evening and fell asleep, it was 8.15 pm. The film was very interesting because I woke up at midnight and saw two fighting hippos ! I went to bed and couldn't sleep ! 

I red the happenings on Facebook and watched little movies with monkeys on my Tablet and then finally I slept. Unfortunately Rosie at 7 am did her morning jogging on me, so I got up gave her something to eat, but she wasn't hungry and returned to bed and it was 9 when the girl brought me breakfast. 

On the Breakfast tray were 4 croissants and a napkin which should say "Merry Christmas" unfortunately the personal in the kitchen didn't know English and gave us a napkin which made me laugh !  

Probably it was made for summer parties !

We had no Christmas weather at all, it rained and it was very windy. I went to the restaurant to see if there was something special, but besides that it was so full and noisy because of the visitors who had come to visit their grandmas and pas, so that I quickly returned into my room and waited for the Christmas meal, which was really delicious.  A shrimp salad as starter, a thick slice of meat in a Porto sauce and as dessert Brownies with a vanilla sauce. Maybe they can't speak English, but they can cook !

Had a few phone calls to do and the afternoon was quickly over. Then my son and family made a video call and since I had discovered that Whatsapp also works on a computer I saw the three very well. We chatted for a while and I told them that I had a nice Christmas. I had bought a bottle of alcohol free "Champagne" which tasted very good.

After having watched an old French movie   "Father Christmas is a rat" I went to bed.  I watch it each Christmas or rather we watched it. It is one of the funniest and very psychological French movie which are usually boring stupid. Except those on TV. And so I spent the second Christmas Eve alone, but I didn't feel alone. A ghost called Rick sat besides me !

I have started to unpack more then slowly ! There are still two bags left. One bag was full of salt, because my son had forgotten to close the the lid! 

Separating winter and summer wasn't difficult - luckily my closet is pretty big. But after 3-5 pieces I had to stop. I was panting like a locomotive.

I still stay only in my room and haven't met the others. But this week I will start and go for lunch in the restaurant. Breakfast is in your room anyway and supper is like you want.

On Sunday while I was on the phone and looked out of the window I had this view

and when I finished and looked again, to my surprise the view has changed ! it looked like this

WEEKEND 

Saturday I waited for an interruption of the rain, which didn't come. I was still worried about how to organize my move into the retirement home, which I call "MY CASTLE" because it had been one years ago. And then everything was solved from alone ! My landlord had sent me an email to announce that after 3years he has the right to increase the rent. Not much because there is an index. I thought that is a sign to make my decision and give my notice. Then I have 3 months to empty my apartment. I had hoped that my son would at least come and see me because  I needed a bit of support, finally it's a big change in my life to go into a retirement home. But men never understand (only one exception and that was Rick) Oh well, he is good in practical things and I am sure he will help me with the move,  but he doesn't even get the idea to comfort his old mother. 

It's not just him, most of the sons, if I listen to  the widows around me are like him.  Daughters are different. I have to take him as he is, he probably hasn't changed at all, but I have ! He forgets that I don't live 10 years anymore and that time is pretty short. Except that a miracle happens and I turn 100! Poor guy, I think he still thinks I'm 40 or even 20! Mothers have no right to get old, they have to stay forever young. And men hate difficulties and problems.

Luckily I have Isabel who comforts me and always find a solution! So from November on, if everything goes well, I'll move. A room is already ready, even if it's not what I want, it's only temporarily.

Nearly the whole afternoon I spent with looking for an example to give my notice, I had never done that. But as always Google finds the answers !

 I had placed an ad for Rick's office. I also promptly got an offer that was so stupid that I immediately noticed that it was a scam. He wanted to have the money brought to me by the postman who would also take the furniture! I replied that he might be able to take a bedside table and that the post office doesn't have trucks, please contact another victim! That didn't stop him from asking again and I suggested he use a Toyota Aygo as the truck!

The rest of the day I spent on the phone !!

Sunday was dedicated to my beauty, or what it's left of it, I washed my hair read some posts and then it was already noon. In the afternoon a certain Janine came, I didn't know her at all, but apparently she did, because she reads my blog ! It turned out that she lives just on the other side of the street, what a coincidence. It was very nice to meet her, finally it was a vintage girl who also spoke English, and we didn't run out of subjects to discuss. She was also interested in Expositions, theater and photography. Just as I. Now in August she goes to London and I don't know yet what I do, if I go to Eastbourne or not; it all depends what the lung doctors says. 

The weather there is just like here maybe in the second half of August it will change. Hopefully !

WEEKEND 

Usually I don't care that much about Birthday celebrations, but this one was special because it was a milestone birthday, I turned 80. I wanted to do something special.  

I made a few suggestions to my son, e.g. make a baloon ride over Waterloo. But that didn't work because my DIL gets dizzy. Then I wanted to visit a grotto, but my son was afraid that I would trip and fall. 

I can't remember why I suddenly thought, why don't we go to "Little Europe" and then in the restaurant of the last sphere of the Atomium. That was something special. Everyone agreed with that. 

 

The Atomium is a landmark modernist building in Brussels, Belgium, originally constructed as the centrepiece of the 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Expo 58).

In the last ball is a very nice and modern restaurant. The food was extremely good and the presentation an artwork. The portions were enough even for my two men who both eat like horses. 

 

This was the main course, Salmon, a Steak, and cod. Toby tried to make a selfie from the three of us and cut his father's face off.

The meal lasted quite some time, we started at 7 pm and came out at 10.30 ! The elevator in the middle tube which takes you to the restaurant, is so quick, that you almost not realize that you arrived already.

It had been very hot this day 30°C and before we went to the restaurant, we visited "Little Europe" which is just underneath. I surprised myself that I had no health problems at all, I walked around like if was 20, despite the sun shining on my head, but after an hour I had to sit down in the shade and had a bottle of water. 

I was really happy that my birthday went so well, and that I had nothing, and could breath and walk. And when the two had brought me home and left for Amsterdam, I wasn't even tired !

I will write another post about "Mini Europe". It is so interesting for adults and children and so well done, you walk through whole Europe, through all countries, with all important buildings. I felt like a giant walking through all these countries. Big Ben just arrived at my shoulders !

Saturday I did nothing special, in the evening we had our Waterloo Facebook meeting in a nice Greek restaurant. I didn't feel like it at all, but Isabel told me that I have to go there to meet people and have fun. I said to myself, she's probably right, I can't stay like this, I have to make an effort. 

I disguised myself as a merry widow and got there on time. The food was very good and so were the two young singers, but somehow I didn't feel normal. I laughed with the others, but that was only on the surface. Before they started dancing, I grabbed my coat and left. I couldn't stand the noise any longer, nor the happy people. When I got home I went straight to bed. It was probably too early to go out with so many people.

 On Sunday I slept a little longer and then prepared the guestroom for Dominique. I had emptied my new little vacuum cleaner and wanted to put it together. After an hour I gave up and had lunch. I watched my movie and suddenly the doorbell rang I had fallen asleep !! It was Dominique. A strong Coffee made us half fit again and I asked her to help me with the  vacuum cleaner. After an hour she gave up and we both considered us as genius.

Suddenly I saw what had happened we had put one pièce in the wrong way. We came to the conclusion that men can be useful sometimes. Meanwhile it was time for super and we had pasta in form of a mussel with mushrooms and a chorizo sauce. Was real good. As we both were not in our best shape I choose the wrong movie on YouTube it was a film for Kids. That changed us from my murder and Dominique from her action films.

We checked the documents for our Danube river cruise and then tired we went to bed.
