FUN MONDAY-Own Movies

Sayre our host this week asks :

I want you to think about the movies that you OWN. Not movies you've seen, but the ones you felt strongly enough to go out and buy. You will be your very own awards committee, awarding your movies an Oscar in the following categories ....

I can't say anything about categories or being my own award committee for the simple reason that I am not a movie freak. I don't have any favourite actors, the only one which just comes into my mind is Julia Roberts. When I watch a movie I like it or not, the rest doesn't matter.
Of course that was different when I was a Teenager !

I don't owe a single movie. I was never interested in buying movie DVDs and keep them like books in a library . There are a few laying around here, but they belong either to our son or to friends. If I want to see a film again I rent it. I have friends they own a whole Video library, but I am not interested at all in this.

The only DVD which is not rented or borrowed in this house is "The Godfather" all 3 films. It was a birthday gift Mr. G. got years ago.

It is the DVD package called "The Godfather DVD Collection". The collection contains all three films with commentary from Francis Ford Coppola and a bonus disc that features a 73-minute documentary from 1991 titled The Godfather Family: A Look Inside, plus a 1971 documentary. The package also contains deleted footage, including the additional scenes originally contained in The Godfather Saga. "Francis Coppola's Notebook" a look inside a notebook the director kept with him at all times during the production of the film, rehearsal footage, and video segments on Gordon Willis's cinematography, Nino Rota's and Carmine Coppola's music, Francis Ford Coppola, locations and Mario Puzo's screenplays. The DVD also holds a Corleone family tree, a "Godfather" timeline, and footage of the Academy Award acceptance speeches.

This movie is part of cinema history and you can read more about it here in Wikipedia

In this version the Coreleone family speaks french !

  2. I am like you. Not too many movies in our 'library'. Just recently bought the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

  3. My hubs loves the God Father movies...I think he has watched each one at least 3 times. We do own a collection of "Gettysburg"..we are interested in American history and we live so close to where this battle occured. But I am like you...I dont have the need to go out and buy a movie. Thanks for sharing Gattina and Happy FM

  4. I never did like the Godfather, although Jack loves it! So naturally we have it. Jack also collects movies and we have over 600! It makes me crazy. Oh well...
    How is Miss Rosie?

  5. I've seen the first Godfather movie, but not the rest.

My son and I rifle the used rental DVDs bin periodically. And there are a few movies I want to have because I watch them often enough that I'd be racking up some serious rental fees! Every once in a while, I buy one brand new (like "Up"). We enjoy movies at my house. It's what we do when it's too cold or too wet (or too hot) to go outside.

    Thanks for playing!

  6. Well....I must be in the minority here, because I am a movie buying freak. I think that I have a movie buying addiction.

And now that I am thinking about how much I like the Godfather movies and realizing that I don't own them......I might just have to make a visit to the movie store this week!

  8. in french? reminds me of the German movies too at teh start i was shocked to hear the voices of the actors in German.. Bruce Willis was so weird..as well as Brad Pitt's and so on.. and the women sound all the same.. irregardless of who they are.. now i've gotten so used to it.. it sounds strange when i watch them in original tone..

  9. The Godfather series really does not interest me. I know I have seen bits and pieces, but have never sat down to watch the WHOLE thing. My husband likes it though.

  10. I actually think the Godfather series could cover every category of those awards.
    They were pretty well made.

  11. Like you I don't own a big DVD film collection--just the few I really love. However, if I really like a film I want the "Godfather" treatment with all the background, interviews with stars, setting, etc. Do you have something like Netflix for movie rentals where they come in the mail? Best thing since sliced bread!

  12. Me again Gattina. I saw the query about Miss Rosie in your comments. Do you have a sick kitty?

  13. We have many many many old VHS movies in the house -- and now we have no VHS machine on which to play them! Many have dry rotted over the years anyway. Krysti just commented to me yesterday that she wanted to watch "home movies" this weekend - but we can't! I have to take them and have them put onto DVD. Dennis went to Walmart a few weeks ago to buy a new VHS player and couldn't FIND one! I couldn't believe it! But it was true! DVD only! We DO own movies on DVD too - but to ME they are only dust collecters! The kids do watch them occasionally... but even Dennis only watches movies that come on the satellite! MORE stuff for me to get rid of!

  14. I have seen the Godfather. I liked it, but would not sit and watch very often. I like up lifting, cheerful movies.

  15. There are very few films I would want to see a second time. After many years have passed I might and I would rent it.

I do have the boxed set of The History of Baseball all 22 hours of it. I have watched it through twice over the years.

At a weak moment at at yard sale I purchased about 20 tapes of movies a woman had downloaded from the TV. They are all wonderful classic movies. There are as many as four movies to a tape. It is well done and each case has an index on what films are inside. All for $10.00.
I have watched most of the movies once if I had not seen them before.

Now you can find free movies on the Internet. All the movies of the National Film Board of Canada are free to be viewed. I also watch some on the Internet Archive.
I like film noir movies I find there.

I actually went to a movie theatre a while ago. It has been years since I did that. It was not a good movie and the treats were outrageously expensive. I wanted to make and take my own popcorn but my date would not hear of it.
