OBAMA OR MC CAIN ?

Somebody wrote in his blog : If you are an American then vote tomorrow, if you are not an American then remind an American to vote !”

I live in a city (Waterloo) in Belgium where the majority of Americans live because of the American school we have here. Most of them are working for their American Company.

Many of the women are in my fitness club and we chat together also about politics right now. One thing is sure what I read here on some blogs and what Americans tell me in real life is very different because they don't live in America, they now see their country through other eyes and are all sure of one thing, there has to be a change ! and a big one. America has to realize that they are not the only country on the planet and that there are other countries too.

When I read some of the American blogs I get the impression that they are still living in the past century and didn't follow at all what is going on in the rest of the world. They haven't realized yet that the "Great Nation" doesn't exist anymore.

As the USA are the only country in our civilized world who only has two parties to vote for, it doesn't make it very easy. To this comes the fact that they mix up religion with politics, which is also impossible elsewhere.

Remember what John F. Kennedy said already more than 40 years ago

"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."?
and he also said
"My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."?

When you go today and vote, please keep in mind what our blogfriend Tor from Norway wrote on his blog :

I hope Americans will realize once and for all on November 4:
It's about 6 billion human beeings not living in "The Homeland" on this Planet Earth.

Change is needed .... to be continued here

And I fully agree with him.

  1. Gattina, read Abe Lincoln's blog about the election. There you can see how we in Holland think about Mr.G.W.B and his wars based on wrong reasons. Wars that are so expensive that we are now having an economic crisis and above all the loss of many young soldiers and countless innocent citizens. We all hope that the next president will make a huge change, politically and also for the environment. I don't think we want McCain and Palin. If something happens to the first, the latter will be president and that means going back to the last century. Sorry... Thanks for your comment.

  2. I don't normally talk politics, but I'll agree as much in this case as I did in the last Swedish election: there is a need of a change, definitely. Why keep going with something that doesn't work? That would be plain simple foolish.

  3. You are so certainly correct on the change needed. But, I must say that we have more than two parties. There generally is the Libertarian party and Independent party AND Americans can write in their votes for whomever they choose...it's just not all Republican/Democrat. But, yes, these two parties are the mainstream.

    GOBama!!!!

  7. Now the world is waiting...You know very well the states and I never went there but I know that the american culture and our European one are extremly different. The separation church/politic is something very important for european.

  8. You have the right to speak your thoughts. As an American, I value freedom of speech as one of the top things. However, you're wrong about only two parties. You must not have voted very recently. There's a strong Libertarian presence in the ballot as well as Independents.

Looking forward to getting to know you through your writing. :)
