WEEKEND REVIEW MARCH 10 - MACRO MONDAY

Saturday was a real lazy day, where I didn't dare to go out because it was so wet and I am still a little anxious that my breathing problems come back. Since I have been at the Red Sea in Egypt, I have nothing anymore and don't whistle like an old locomotive when I come up the stairs.

But in the evening we had super show at the theatre in the Waterloo city hall. It was as usual for the seniors.

This time it was a show with the very famous (in French speaking countries) press cartoonist Pierre Kroll.

The theatre was full ! Nobody wanted to miss him.

His political cartoons are hilarious and so true. He has a very sharp humor and makes humor out of the most dramatic things. He is for no religion, for no extremists whatsoever and not a racist either. In the beginning of the show he told us that he was  born in the at that time "Belgian Congo" and of course surrounded by black people, far more then whites. When the family had to go back to Belgium at the Congo's independence he was a 3 year old toddler and traumatized by the fact that there were more white than black people and he had never seen so many and not even one black ! He therefore cried and cried and his parents had all difficulties of the world to comfort him.

It was a very funny show and our bellies hurt so much we laughed, as the whole audience did.

Of course we couldn't end the evening just like that it was early only 8 pm, therefore we decided to go into a nearby located restaurant in a tiny little street in Waterloo center.

The food there is excellent and we enjoyed the evening very much.

Of course it rained on Sunday morning when I had the intention to go to the midi market in Brussels, where I hadn't been since at least a year. So I stayed home and computered.

and while looking out of my window for inspiration, I saw quite a lot of bikers, because it had cleared up. Ever since the Waterloo Newspaper had declared that it is very dangerous to ride a bike in the city, our street has become a favorite target for bikers as there is nearly no traffic in this street and the streets around. I almost felt like little Amsterdam !

When I had finished with everything I had to do on the computer and in the house,

I watched funny crime stories on TV. Arthur slept on my lap and I took the opportunity to make a punk out of him. He didn't care !

WEEKEND REVIEW FEBRUARY 20

Mr. G's friend from his Whist card playing had invited us to a Chinese restaurant.

Unfortunately we couldn't use the fancy garden seats, it was far too cold. Inside it was very cosy and we spend a nice time together.

I had Peking duck with noodles, Mr. G. Scampis and our friend duck à l'orange. As desert we both had a Dame Blanche (vanilla and chocolate ice with whipped cream) and Chinese donuts. It was all very good.

In the afternoon we went to Toyota. Mr. G.'s car is now 10 years old and starts to get ouchies. We thought before it is getting worse and also to get more money when they take back the old car it was better to sell it now and buy a new one . I had seen a little Kia which belonged to a friend, but then we decided to buy the little Toyota Aigo.

It's just perfect for Mr. G. who only drives very short distances and mostly only in Waterloo. We made an excellent deal, and were both happy about our purchase. Now he has to wait until end March before he gets the new car.

After a few warm days it suddenly became quite cold, too cold for me to go out ! But in the evening Nicole and I went to a theatre play, which was really excellent.

It was performed by hobby actors in a huge room belonging to the city. We got sandwiches, cakes and drinks before it started. The title was : The Trial of Marie Dugan. What I didn't know was that the whole play was as if we would attend a real trial, the actors who were witnesses were sitting amongst us, but we didn't know ! When the judge entered the stage the clerk asked the audience to stand up what we did of course all a little surprised and with laughter. The whole play was made just like a real trial ! I had never attended a trial, so this was my first one and very special  !

WEEKEND REVIEW March 12,

Since the weekend started I live in two countries ! In the morning I wake up in Siberia, sometimes even with a little snow, and in the afternoon I am in Africa and can sit on a terrace ! The world has changed around me, restaurants and cafés have put their tables outside, and people are enjoying the long expected first spring days.

The only thing which bothers me about spring is that garden work starts and I hate it, I really have no green thumb. But still I thought I have to have a check up on Oscar our lawn mower robot, and brought it to the shop. Which had closed and there was a beauty saloon instead, which of course refused to make up my Oscar. Now I have to find another store nearby who will take care of it.

Late afternoon I went to a theatre play in the City hall together with my neighbor  Vivi, organized for the seniors. It was very funny and played in the Brussels' dialect which is very special and to French speaking people hilarious. There are still some people in Brussels who speak this language and for a long time France had thought we all would speak this funny French and made fun of the Belgians. They were very disappointed when they came and everybody spoke normal French. The play was longer as usual and I got nervous because at 8.30 pm I had another play with my season ticket together with Nicole.

I just made it and we arrived in time ! Unfortunately we didn't have supper as usual, but fortunately I wasn't hungry neither. This play was a British one from a British author translated into French. The humour was the typical British one and I found the play very good and funny. Nicole almost fell asleep and the man besides me snored peacefully during nearly the whole play.

It was late and we returned home and I just fell in my bed. I still wasn't hungry ! I did a theater diet which is not yet known.

On Sunday a group of young teenage boys rang at the door and collected food for the poor and refuges from Syria we have to deal with.  I gave them all I had as can food rice and noodles and told them how nice it was of them to spent a sunny Sunday morning with collecting food.

Nicole had suggested to Ilona and me to spend the afternoon on her terrace. It was unbelievable, outside on the street there were 10°C and I and Ilona arrived in our winter coats, but on the terrace we had to take off layer after layer because it was so warm. That was the first time this year that we could sit outside and have a beer, then ice cream and then tea ! It was like a holiday afternoon and we had a lot of fun.

Of course Charlie was the star and spoilt by 3 girls ! I had brought him a bone, then he had a bowl of ice cream and then Nicole brought his personal pharmacy with comb and brushes because we had noticed that he lost a lot of hairs.

Nicole combed and brushed him and Ilona and I comforted him, because sometimes he was protesting.

What a nice afternoon, we decided to repeat this and profit from the early spring weather to a maximum.

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND ?

Helps you to remember what you have done on the weekend of March 23. If you participate please put the little logo on the top of your post and leave your link.

I slowly recovered from my cold last week and felt a lot better on Saturday.

As usual I got my weekly Skype call from Toby, but this time he wasn't in the mood at all to look at his  grandma's boring face, he preferred by far to play with a green jeep ! Yes he is now in the TT (terrible two) age, where he discovers that he has an own will !  I admired the jeep and continued talking with his Dad.

I also got a picture of him in his new bed ! He became too small for his baby bed and seems to be proud to sleep now in a normal bed. The baby is gone, welcome to the little boy !

It was a very boring day I couldn't go out because of the bad weather, fortunately in the evening I had a theatre play, which was hilarious. Just what I needed to cheer me up !

The play was called "My Mother in Law is crazy" (Ma belle mère est givrée) and she really was ! Sometimes the actors had to stop because the whole audience laughed so much.

When we got back to my car it started to snow !!

and on Sunday morning when I opened the shutters I had again a black and white view !! I wonder if this winter will ever end. It hasn't happened in Belgium since 1916 that we had snow end of March !

Mr. G recovers from his cold and did a long nap while I watched  a little TV and sorted out photos. No way to put a foot outside it's so windy and cold and the roads quiet slippery !
