WORDLESS WEEKEND

This is the Valley of the Kings and the tourist craze that takes place in front of the entrances to the tombs. I visited it twice, once in 2002 with Rick and my aunt's neighbors from the States,  and then years later with two friends.

SHARM EL SHEIK - RED SEA EGYPT

I have been to Sharm el Sheikh three times. It is a beautiful town with an old city center and a paradise for divers. It was the "Miami" of Egypt and many English and Americans were the majority of tourists. But then it was attacked several times by terrorists and planes also shot down. Of course, no airline did fly anymore to Sharm el Sheik. An economical drama for the locals who mostly live from the tourism.

Today there are flights again and mostly divers go back to their paradise.

The hotels are all very luxurious, even a 3*

This was our hotel

and the beach

The way to the beach always clean

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

The whirling dance is a form of meditation, a way of connecting with the cyclical nature of life and the universe in order to reach a higher plane of spiritual consciousness. In Egypt, dancers perform a folkloric dance known as tanoura, based on Sufi whirling dervish tradition.

HOLIDAYS IN EGYPT

In 2009 I went for the second time to Hurghada in Egypt, together with my friend Chantal. At that time we still had a time sharing apartment and I had asked for an apartment in Hurghada. We got an apartment in the Hotel Regina, which I guess doesn't exist anymore.

It was in the middle of the town and when we arrived there tired from flight and a bit surprised by the surroundings, I thought the driver was wrong, we were suddenly in a jumble of honking cars, loud music and a lot of hustle and bustle !

Where is the red sea ?? I almost got a nervous breakdown, when I imagined  to stay 2 weeks in this loud mess.

Reluctantly we entered the hotel and found ourselves in a beautiful entrance hall and almost in another world !

From the reception we could see the beach and the sea ! Was I happy !

From outside our apartment looked very nice too. The inside was funny. My bed broke the first evening, in the kitchen (which fortunately we never used) the electric wires hung out of the wall, the TV dated from the first World War and the furniture was used up. Apparently it is not a country to go for time sharing apartments, the hotel rooms were completely different and rather luxurious. Anyway timesharing doesn't exist anymore.

But then sitting on our terrace in the morning for a cup of coffee, suddenly a huge truck arrived and sprayed I don't know what on everything ! It stunk terribly we almost suffocated.

We quickly escaped into the room, and when the smoke slowly disappeared we hurried to the beach ! Of course I asked what this spray was and they told me that it was against the mosquitos, that stung the people and that itched horribly. This spray was supposed to be the only mean that lasted for a long time.

They sprayed three times per day, early morning, when we had lunch and in the evening. It helped probably, because the mosquitos didn't like us but this was not the case of everybody.

Meanwhile all this has changed, and they use a more environment friendly spray which doesn't smell.

In a mosque, we got nice green coats !

OUR WORLD - SUNRISE HOLIDAY RESORT - HOLIDAYS

My holidays in Hurghada at the Red Sea in Egypt are coming to an end. The two weeks went by so quickly  ! We are flying back into cold grey weather.

Yesterday I suddenly saw a quiet big metal frame work grewing out of the beach in front of our hotel.

I saw four workers on the roof, without any protection climbing and jumping like monkeys

In no time the tent was built, exactly in 24 hours ! Only the "walls" are missing. I had been told that it was the tent in which the Christmas and New Year celebrations were done. Apparently the hotel is fully booked !

I said hello to my holiday love Oscar and gave him an apple. He is so cute.

Looking out of my window I saw this ! It was very windy and the sea was so wild that we couldn't swim ! There was the red flag : Danger

These are little fishes which clean your feet. They eat the dead skin. I had tried it once, but this time I didn't, I just had no time ! Which is a good excuse when you do nothing.

In the evening our father Christmas in the entrance hall looks more beautiful then during the day ! The Christmas tree is not yet there, they have ordered a new one and it hasn't arrived yet. Normally all decoration is done around the 6th of December, St. Niclas day.
