FUN MONDAY - RAK

This week Little Mouse wants to know at least one RAK : Tell us anything you want, what you did, why you did it, if it was done in secret, how it made you feel, or anything else.

I find this question rather difficult. First of all I didn't know what a RAK is and thought maybe there is a writing error and it should be RAG. But this wasn't possible either because the definitions of "rag" in my dictionary didn't fit at all the question. Finally I got the explanation that I should talk or describe an act of kindness I did !

I really don't know. What is an act of kindness ? Saying "good morning" to my postman, neibours or any person I meet in the morning ? Or letting a person with only two articles passing first at the cashier ? Stopping to let people crossing the street ? To me this is not kind but only polite.

My friend (and neighbour) was sick the whole week, so I did her shopping and looked after her. Is that kind ? I think it is rather normal, because she would do the same for me.

Conclusion I am not a kind but a normal person and even that would be contested by Mr. G.

  1. I had problem with RAK when I saw your post. Then it dawned on me Random Acts of Kindness...geez you think they would explain what they want. I think that you doing the shopping is both normal and kind if you ask me. Who knows. Who cares. I think you are just right :)

  2. I was wondering what RAK was too but anyhow, I think you still managed a good post about it.

  5. G--I think you're thinking about it too hard. This was supposed to be lighthearted and fun, although you are right, everyone should do acts of kindness all the time, but they don't, so this was a way to 'share the love', thus the button that went along with the post --and Thom, since the whole 2 weeks worth of topics was themed around acts of kindness, with random acts of kindness written out in the post, I thought it was pretty clear, but I didn't take into account having to translate with a dictionary, either! Most of the players have English as a first language.

  6. I think RAK and being polite are one and the same. Like I said in my post...living by the golden rule (Do unto others as you would have done to you") is an act of kindness in its self. Taking care of a neighbor is a great way of showing RAK! Thanks for sharing Gattina.

  7. Hmmm....does saying Good Morning to the police officers every morning counts? Because no one did it and I was the only one ;)

  8. I agree with you, acts like that should be regarded as polite and kind. It's the one that goes a little out of your way that counts as a RAK - taking care of your neighbor definitely qualifies - even if she WOULD do it for you!

  9. LOL! Gattina... a random act of kindness is ANY kindness that you show to someone just because you want to. Something that is not "expected" that you would do, but that you just do - from your heart! And that IS excactly what shopping and taking care of your friend was. Yes, she probably WOULD do it for you too! And that is NORMAL for us to do for people we care about! Soooo... some of us take it a bit further and do something completely out of the ordinary for a total stranger! I have stopped to buy hot coffee for construction workers on a cold day... I have also brought cold soda's to a road crew on a hot day. I don't know those people - I don't have any attachment to those people. I do appreciate the work they do in my community - and so I just randomly do a little something to make their day a bit happier! One day last summer I filled a cooler with ice pops (popsicles) and delivered them to workers on the road. They were all SO surprised! It was great fun! Made them happy -- made ME happy! :)

  10. I think Meli said it all! Your shopping for your neighbor definitely qualifies as a random act of kindness, cause it is not something you normally do on a daily basis.

  11. I agree that what you do (even though it's normal for you to do so) is very kind. As Jill pointed out, there are so many people out there who just don't do these polite things any more. It's so sad that society in some countries has become like this.

Jill had already nominated me for March 1 FM but would you like to do March 8?

I've already got next week's assignment up http://www.wendishness.com/stuff/fun-monday-assignment-for-march-1st/

  12. hahaha.... you have been unkind to Mr G all these years.

The young generation these days don't seem to have much kindness, they are more self-centered and kind to themselves only.

  13. Nice to have such good relations with your neighbor! Life is so cool when your environment is composed by "normal'" persons as you are! It's sad when people doesn't care each others. Mais si Gattina, tu es une très gentille personne.
