ELECTRICITY BILL PAYED CASH IN COINS !

A Belgian citizen was so angry about the increasing petrol and electricity prices that he payed his electricity bill of 931.00 EUR (1,475.55 USD) in 1 cent coins which represented a weight of 215 kg (474 lbs) ! He carried them to the Electricity company in two barrows together with a friend.

This way he wanted to show the difficulties that citizens have to pay their electricity bill !

  1. What a witty man!
If I bring a barrow of 1-cent coins to pay my electricity bill, I'll be fined. :)

We are only allowed to pay a certain amount of cash by coins. We have to pay extra if we exceed that.

  2. It's a good idea! I don't imagine our Nicolas if all french people would do the same! It could be a funny story!

  3. Oh well done! Unfortunately we no longer have 1c pieces, our smallest coin is 5c...it's not quite the same somehow.

  4. Way to GO! If I were to try that in the states, the payment would be rejected! They would tell me they can't ACCEPT "coin" payment! I would have to lug those barrows back to the bank and get paper cash! (or write a check) But WOW! I thought OUR electric bills were high! I can't even IMAGINE a $1400 electric bill! Dennis & I would both have to work 3 jobs to pay that!

  5. HI! I wanted to go to your SWF site, but when I clicked the link you gave, it said it was not available, or didn't exist. Maybe next time. I did like the article on the man paying in pennies. Did you know that in the U.S. pennies are not accepted as payment for most items, just like eastcoastlife mentioned. Mustang Mike

  6. So, it's that way with cost of living world wide, huh?

All I can say is: Good for him!!!

I swear, if we'd all just boycott the oil companies for one week, it'd put a 'fix on them'.

  7. That's quite a high bill. Sounds more like a huge car payment or house payment. Very funny, but sad too.
