For my birthday some years ago, I organized a cruise on the Albert Canal in Brussels. It is the waterway connecting the cities of Antwerp and Liège in Belgium. The Albert Canal is about 130 km (80 miles) long. It was completed in 1939.
It's a funny cruise not because it takes you along Brussels bank, and not always the most beautiful places! From garbage dump to car cemetery to the luxurious sailing ship club. You get on the boat in Brussels and back out in Vilvoorde (a municipality of Brussel). Then you can take the next boat back and see the other side of the canal. It's a very cheap Cruise as it is also considered as public transport.
The boats look like this.
and here we go !
an outside building from the Royal Palace
Factories
Brussels' trash
concrete factory
Citroën
A stop
Interesting to see all the trash people leave ....
Very nice place to live
Apartments are very expensive with view on the canal
It's what we would describe as a 'warts and all' cruise.
ReplyDeleteCanal cruises are terrific and it is good that you saw such a variety of places. It amused me to learn that some drunk people in Amsterdam rode their bikes into canals.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful boat! The trash views are not so pleasant. It reminds me of a boat cruise on the river that runs in Moscow-- all kinds of views: factories, buildings, houses, parks, galleries - no trash.
ReplyDeleteNever been cruise of any type.

We would do that cruise for sure if we were there,! I love excursions like that! (And if you haven’t completely forgotten me because I am such a terrible blog friend, please don’t remind me that we had our chance to visit you … and Brussels … a few years ago and stupidly passed it up.). Hope you are doing OK.
