BRUSSELS FLOWER CARPET GRAND' PLACE

The Flower Carpet is a biennial event in Brussels in which volunteers from around Belgium gather at the Grand Place, the historic centre of the city, to weave a carpet-like tapestry out of colorful begonias. The event takes place every other August, coordinating with Assumption Day. Nearly a million flowers are required to create the ephemeral 1,800 m2 (19,000 square feet) carpet.

It's always a very beautiful carpet and each time with another design. We were all sad that due to the Coronavirus this event has also been cancelled this year. In fact it would be shorter to name the events which still takes place, there are not many, nearly nothing and when, the number of people is very much reduced.
There is no real joy in the air and the masked people don't raise the mood either. That's why most off us don't even want to go.

around the Grand'place is also a market with all kinds of souvenirs or handicrafts.

This was a carpet of a few years ago.

It is really beautiful and unique

There are enough restaurants and bars around to rest and have a glas, I mean in normal times. Now it is rather empty and not a lot of people around

  2. Ah, yes, it is sad that so much is cancelled. Thankfully our heather moors and woodlands haven't had the 'cancelled' message.

  5. I love the flower carpets because they look so beautiful but I am always a little sad that so many flowers get destroyed.
