I AM IN ISTANBUL

The "I" came on purpose ! Since yesterday afternoon I am in Istanbul for 10 days to discover the city a little more. I have been in Istanbul in 2007 unfortunately I had difficulties with my travel blog and I probably deleted the post by mistake a couple of years ago.

I don't have any photos yet, the pictures from our hotel I took from Internet.

These pictures I made in 2007, as you can see it's a beautiful very cosmopolitan city.
From today on I will write a post of my daily "adventures".

When we arrived and had checked into our hotel, we went out to change 50 € each into Turkish Lira. Then we walked a little through the city and also visited a mosque. When I wanted to give some money at the entrance, I noticed that my wallet had been stolen out of my purse ! Somebody had opened the zip and taken my wallet out. It's still a mistery to me how he could do that without me noticing it ! My purse was hanging over my shoulder and nearly on my belly ! Fortunately I had nothing else than the Turkish lira inside because it was a wallet I only use when I travel. I didn't have my Turkish money for a long time, it was a quiet expensive walk. I suppose that somebody had watched us when we came out of the Change office had followed and waited for a good moment to open the zip.

There is nothing to do, and I decided not to let my holidays spoiled for that !

  2. What a terrible thing to happen on your first day. Those pickpockets are so very clever. Lucky you didn't loose too much and it won't spoil your holiday.

  3. Gosh, sorry to hear you got pick-pocketed. We try to be super careful about these things when we are travelling, but these guys are really skillful at it. Visiting from Alphabe Thursday.

  4. In the days when I traveled a lot I used to bring a maternity top. Then I had a fanny pack that I would put in my wallet in. I would carefully turn the fanny pack forward and I looked pregnant! No one ever approached me.
I'm sorry a terrible thief got you. Best wishes for a better stay.

  7. My sister visited there when she was younger. What an interesting city.

Sorry about the way you were greeted right off the bata. I don't think my sis would be surprised to hear what happened to you. I think they had a couple of pretty scary experiences with creepy characters. (She was traveling with my sisters, and they felt like safety was a bit of an issue.)

They did have a great time, though.

    =)

  10. That's just a shame! I like Maribeth's idea about the maternity top. I think I'd rather look at pictures that to go to there. When you are in a run down foreign country you are at their mercy. It's too easy for you to be falsely accused and thrown into to their jails!I guess you can tell I am not a globe trekker.~Ames
