VIRTUAL GIRL FRIENDS

Letter "V"

I am a very modern woman and you know why ? Because I have virtual friends.

Nobody around me has virtual friends. When I say I have virtual friends, most of them don't know of course what I mean and they think I am ready for a madhouse. But I consider myself a lucky girl. My virtual friends are like friends in real life. I can empty my heart and I always get recomforted and they understand me. It's just the same with the real friends. I mean those I know in flesh and blood, while the others I only know from pictures ! On posts you can't always write the truth, it would be boring for others.

My virtual friends live in different countries and on different continents, but that doesn't matter. We may have other climates or landscapes, live on the other side of the world (it depends were you are standing), but all in all we lead the same life. We have the same feelings, the same interests and it would be so nice to meet each other once in the future. And why not. The world will get smaller and smaller, it got it already.

Imagine in 1830 it took 6 months to go to New York by ship, today it takes you 6 h by plane. And even Australia is not that far anymore ! And the UK are just around the corner, it takes 1 1/2 h to get from Brussels to London. It takes me more time to get to my friend who lives on the other end of Brussels ! There are not a lot of Blog friends I would dare to meet in real life, I am always afraid to be disappointed, but for a few I am to 99,9 % sure that it would work.

It starts already with the voice. You imagine one and then the sound of the voice is completely different from what you thought ! I have heard the voice of one virtual friend talking to me on the phone for the first time and had imagined a high girlish voice when heard a rather deep one, I was so surprised that I nearly forgot to answer, which made us laugh when I told her so. I have met twice Blog friends, since I started Blogging in 2006, but it was rather disappointing. It turned out that they were not at all the same once I had thought and imagined so, it was nice to meet, but not more.

My in "flesh and blood" friends know my "virtual" friends by name now. I don't have to explain anymore "you know the one in Australia who has sometimes a kangaroo in her garden which she has called "fat butt", or "the one with the dackels" and finally I get the impression that real or virtual, they are all my friends. The only difference is, that with my virtual friends I can only share a virtual tea or coffee time, and we eat our virtual cake, but we can watch the same movies or series together only at different times.

I think it is wonderful to be able to know women from all over the world and even become friends and this is not virtual but real.

  4. That was a lovely post. I love that photo. You know Gattina you have a "hyperthymic temperament". That is a very good thing, it means you live life to the full. I'm cyclothymic which means I alternate between someone like you and someone who's like a white mouse. Now I need a Virtual Friend too. One who understands me, nobody understand me Gattina. I think you do better than most so I thank you for that.

  5. I agree with you, my virtual friends are very important to me. I've met only one friend so far and she would be someone I would like to meet up with again. And of course at the end of this month the both of us will meet another friend! We will be able to compare notes!!!! (Behind her back of course... ;))

I have plans to another soon, but only because it happens she lives right here in my city! he he. Boy are you right it can take me longer to go across town than to get to another state!!

You sound like so much fun I am your newest follower!

I am glad to meet you my new (true) virtual friend!

  8. I totally agree with you, isn't it a real amazing thing get to know "virtualy" people from all over the world? Different life-styles, different habits, different countries, different traditions?

  9. I can't help but hope that when people round the world make virtual friends and learn that some things are the same everywhere, the world will be better for it. More compassionate. More accepting. More stimulating. I hope so! Nice post!

  10. It's a shock to meet people sometimes, as you say. It's so good to have virtual friends and discover that we have quite a lot in common.

  11. I remember my grandmother, back in the 1960's. She has a phone on a phone table, and on the table was also a phone book, a personal phone book, a roll of paper with a pen, the phone and an egg timer. Why the egg timer? Well, talking on a phone was very expensive and the would call her friend and talk for just three minutes. Then she would write down how long she spoke, and to whom.
I think Grandma would love the Internet and would enjoy being able to be in touch with so many!

  14. Aren't we lucky to have so many different kinds of friends? I know what you mean about hearing a virtual friend's voice for the first time, though. Somehow I never imagine an accent that is different from min (and of course I don't have an accent!) :-)

  16. This was a very good post Gattina.
As it takes a long time to make a true friend, I think virtual friends are wonderful and as you get to know each other better through writing ,it enriches the whole experience.
I am happy talking to my virtual friends as well every day and look forward to their comments.
    It makes my day :)

  22. So true! My family is still learning some of my virtual friends, but they are starting to recognize others. I've had some virtual friends tell me that I am referred to as "The Goat Lady".

  23. Thus far, I have only met one of my vitual friends but we hit it off as though we had known each other forever! Many of my virtual friends feel like old friends because I have visited their countries and have learned much about their customs, foods, etc I do hope to meet more people as I travel.

  24. I know cats prefer virtual friends to real ones. I love having virtual friends in distant countries and reading about how they cope with the weather and the shops they visit. And the exotic holidays they take. But beneath all that our daily lives are mostly the same.
    Great post my virtual friend.

  27. I agree how awesome to meet so many from here, there, and everywhere...that otherwise would not have been possible. I have not met any of my virtual friends yet, but I truly think it would be so much fun!

That would be funny to imagine a person to have a high pitched voice and then to actually talk to them and they have a lower voice than you expected...or vice versa...

    Blessings & Aloha!
(It's funny how my hubby knows some of my virtual friends from me talking about this or that from a post...)

  28. Some of my "virtual" friends have become special to me. I care about their lives like I care for my "real" friends. So perhaps that line is somewhat blurred.
I teach classes sometimes which I arrange by phone. I hear the person's voice--We usually speak several times before the meeting. Of course, I imagine a certain look, but people always look different than imagined. I'm not disappointed by that, just somewhat surprised.
I have to add that I enjoy blogging much more than I imagined at first. I have met such interesting folks, and have traveled "virtually" all over the world.

  29. Gattina, you are certainly right about virtual girl friends! I certainly do love mine!

  30. Oh Gattina, you are so right about this. About 9 years ago I started a small chatroom with 50 or so women in it. Over the years I've met nearly every single one face to face...and many more than once.

The emotions I feel for them as you chat translated so truely to 'real life'.

I've started meeting some of my 'blog' friends recently as well. Except for the sound of their voices the feel of their heart is always so comfortable.

Thanks for a wonderful link this week.

You so vividly expressed the feelings I think many of us share.

    A+
