WEEKLY WINNERS

On one of our excursions we stopped at Battle Abbey shortly before Hastings. The Abbey is very old and was built around 1094. William the Conqueror had vowed to build an abbey where the Battle of Hastings had taken place, with the high altar of its church on the supposed spot where King Harold fell in that battle.

The little village around the Abbey was just beautiful

The main street with the Abbey

and a closer look

I just looked in the garden but didn't visit the abbey. First the entrance was quite expensive and second, I had seen so many of them that I wasn't really interested to see the inside.

On the main street there were a lot of little shops

One for me

and of course also Pubs

A lovely little place just in front of the Abbey

before we arrived in Hastings.

Ohhhhhhhh how I would LOVE to walk those streets! You know... I have never seen such odd LINES in the streets! Zig zag! I wonder what the purpose is in that? (maybe so if you have too much in the pub you THINK you are walking a straight line???) LOL!

Dear Gattina ~~ Thanks for your comments and I was lucky that I didn't get hurt during my fall. Glad you had a great week in England and
the photos are very good.
Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

It looks like such an exotic place compared to the square, boring buildings where I live!

It's been many years since I was in England. After my Aunt passed away, I just have not gone back. I sure do miss it. Especially the pubs!

What a beautiful place. Love the look of the pubs. There's something to be said for sitting outside on a lovely day having a drink and a bite to eat.

Wonderful pictures! The abby is stunning. They must be taking very good care of it, it really is in remarkably good shape for it's age!
