FUN MONDAY - CHRISTMAS FUN

Odd Shots and Macro Monday are here

This week Sayre is our host where you can find more participants.

Her Assignment: What was the most touching, wonderful part of Christmas for you this yer AND What was the craziest, stupidest, funniest part this year?

Although we had a wonderful Christmas nothing particularly touching or crazy happened. But I swear it wasn't boring !

We always celebrate on the 24th and like last year we went to Amsterdam (Holland) for Christmas Eve to spent it together with our son, his girlfriend and her parents. On the posts below you can see some pictures.

The only thing which really touched me was that our son had invited for the 25th Christmas day, 14 of his American and English friends and collegues, who were far away from their families to celebrate Christmas together so that they wouldn't be alone.

The amusing part was that as I was the first up, I had to go out with Jersey the dog who also spent Christmas with us, while his owner was in England. Jersey is a very good dog and as it was quite cold he did his businesses quickly and then wanted to go home. And there was the problem. I had forgotten the house nr and all houses looked the same. To make it even more difficult each entrance had at least 10 very narrow steps to lead to the first floor. Of course I had nothing with me especially no mobile. I decided to count on Jersey and asked him to lead me home. I followed him, he followed me and together we climbed up 3 times the steps in a different entrance, but each time it was the wrong one. He looked at me I looked at him and we found ourselves on the street again. I started to get nervous, how could I find the right house if the dog was as intelligent (?) as I ? Finally in the 4th house and at least 40 steps later I found the right flat and Jersey too, because he waggled with his tail !

What I learned out of this : never go away without your mobile, not even to the mailbox !

Jersey tired from this adventure

  1. That's funny! I'm glad you wound up in the right flat eventually!

  2. Your son inviting 14 friends is very touching.

I can identify with not being able to find your way. I have difficulty finding my way even when the homes look differently. Your story does have a nice ending with that smart dog. You have given good advice about taking the cell phone whenever you go. (I hope to replace my non-functioning phone soon. Happy New Year to you and your family.

  3. I love this post. Your son is very generous and thoughtful, probably comes by it naturally. I'm glad you and Jersey found the right door; I've had moments like that when we travel; always a learning experience.

  4. I was very touched when you told me of your son's generosity too! I think that IS a very touching thing to do! And you are goofy! Next time, take a scarf and tie it on the railing or something! LOL! (the memory is the first thing to go you know...) *wink*

  5. Oh, Gattina, I can relate to your predicament. We do travel a lot, so remembering room numbers is not one of my fortes. So, I take the dogs out in the early morning hours, only to return to a hallway full of doors that all look the same. It's very embarassing when I have to go to the lobby which is usually located a mile away on more than one occasion to ask what room I'm in. Many times I find myself on the other side of a self-locking door in frigid temps. Yes, carrying the cell phone with one at all times is good advice.

May you and yours have a healthy, happy, and safe 2009...and may you always be able to find your way home.

  6. What a lovely gesture your son made to those people away from their homes, to come and spend Christmas with you.

Well, I'm glad you finally found your way back to where you were staying, Gattina. I have visions of you and Jersey roaming around the streets of Amsterdam getting more and more lost as you went on...and never finding your way home again, ever. Mobile phones are a good invention, but only if you take them with you.

  7. I think you have the best funny story! I did something similar in a Germany - I couldn't find the parking garage where I had left my rental car.... But it wasn't cold then....

  8. It is sad when even the dog can't find the place your staying.

  9. Now Gattina you are far too quiet my dear! Karisma would have stood out the front and screamed. "Where are you, Im lost!" Yes I have been known to do this out in public before! LOL!

How lovely of your son to invite everyone around, it must have been a fun day all together!

  10. I love your getting lost story, Gattina. And Jersey to the rescue--well, perhaps he should get the credit or maybe it was just process of elimination(no pun intended!)?

I scrolled down to see your other Christmas photos and it was evident that you had a wonderful visit with your son. That's always nice to hear.

All the best to you and your family in '09, Gattina.
