link to MANIC MONDAY
1. The superstitious believe that to break a mirror brings seven years of bad luck. The cure: to bury the pieces, or run them in a stream.
2. The common ladybird has seven spots.
3.According to many faiths, there are seven heavens, corresponding to the seven heavenly bodies (earth, the sun and the five "naked eye" planets).
4. According to Buddhist legend, after his birth the Buddha rose to his feet and took seven steps.
5. The Seven Sisters is a series of chalk cliffs on the East Sussex coast, a set of waterfalls in Norway, and a group of Stalinist skyscrapers in Moscow.
6. Both Elizabeth Taylor and the late Lana Turner have had seven husbands (and eight marriages).
7. Daniel Craig is the seventh actor to have played James Bond (with the controversial inclusion of Barry Nelson, who starred in a 1954 adaptation of Casino Royale). Sean Connery made his seventh and final outing as Bond in the unofficial Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again. In Ian Fleming's novel You Only Live Twice 007 appears briefly as 7777.
You know, with Elizabeth Taylor (and Lana Turner) being married so much, I can't help but wonder what was going through the minds of husband number seven at the altar (or justice of the peace or captain of the ship or whoever).
ReplyDelete"Oh sure, she couldn't make her last SIX marriages work...but I'M DIFFERENT than those other guys!"
Ian
I didn't know that about there being a cure for a broken mirror. I though you had bad luck if you broke a mirror and that was it. Have a great Monday, Gattina.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love learning stuff I didn't know. need to hunt for those seven cliffs. This was a neat response to the subject.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Gattina
ReplyDeleteSeven little neger! ...
But seven husbands, no!
Tout mais pas ça! ça me fait frémir!
Seven is my very own lucky number *grin*, I was born on a seventh day (but not on the seventh month!).
ReplyDeleteI knew about the broken mirror but I didn't know one could do something against the bad luck! will have to remember this just in case, although I am not superstitious, no: not me!
another supertitious believe about the mirror is... a broken mirror use by a girl may bring badluck too.
ReplyDeletenice pic of pookie and the painting too.
happy monday!
I love "factoids." They're always so interesting! Seven come Eleven...

There were an incredible number of weddings here in the US on 7/7/07. everyone thinking that it was good luck!
ReplyDeleteI am not superstitious. Well, not too much! LOL
Do you remember the German saying
ReplyDelete"Always look into your opponent´s eyes when you clink glasses... otherwise you´ll be suffering from very bad sex for seven years" Or was it seven TIMES? However... for some people it´s the same ;)
One year in the life of a woofie equals seven years being a hooman...
ReplyDeleteMay I have seven treats now?
First, that is one handsome cat.
ReplyDeleteLike many of the others, I didn't know there was a way to prevent the bad luck that's believed to come with breaking a mirror. Thanks for sharing! (And LOL at Sanni's comment.)
