Just jot jan / #SoCS 7/1/19 - Memento
The only highlight this weekend was the invitation from my friend Monique, who had invited our girl's group to have our first drink of 2019 and at the same time celebrate Epiphany, or Three Kings day, one day earlier.
with a glass of Champagne and the King cake (Galette des rois)
This was our Three King's cake not yet touched. Inside is hidden a "fève" which represents a little figurine. In the past it was mostly religious, today you find everything from a Donald Duck to the Holy Mary. The one who finds the fève in his part of cake, hopefully not bites on it and damages his teeth, becomes King or Queen and has to wear the crown. As we had two cakes we also had two queens. I remained untitled ! Our dentists are certainly disappointed because nobody broke a tooth.
Sunday it was a real "stay at home" weather, grey, humid and cold. I discovered the "Just Jot It" word for Jan 7,which was "memento" ! After having studied the internet from top to bottom or from one end to the other I found out that memento has so many meanings ! It was a movie, several restaurants but also different meanings. I stated with relief that my memento are the fèves because they will always remind me this nice afternoon where we celebrated Epiphany together !
I like the golden coloured fèves. The regular dolls and figurines are so-so.
ReplyDeleteOh that King cake looks yummy and gorgeous! Never heard of a cake with fève hidden in it. Sounds like a fun game :-)
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks tasty!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks good but I could manage without the surprises!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing cake, love the surprises. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting tradition. Maybe next year you will wear the crown 😃
ReplyDeleteMy two dentists got all the money, as I had a root canal and now await my crown! Thank goodness for insurance, but still, I will pay close to $500.00 for my share!
ReplyDeleteYe.ou have such good friends to socialise with and what fun you seem to have
ReplyDeleteA fun day! We had Epiphany celebrations in church when I was a child ... they always left the Christmas creche up until after that day and the three Kings figures did not appear until that day. I don't know if that is still true because we don't go to Church ... and now it seems like a really long time to leave Christmas decorations up ! But I would like to enjoy your Epiphany Celebration (being careful of my teeth of course). In New Orleans they have a King Cake for Mardis Gras with that hidden King figure -- it is probably from the same tradition!
