FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

The week started with typical November weather, cold, wet, grey, really mood lifting ! Fortunately we had our activity in the afternoon, we played a fun game, we had to smell at potty and find out what was in it.

That could be a mint smell or a special perfume or baked bread. After the third person who hadn't smelled anything, we finally looked at the expiry date and no wonder no one smelled anything, the potties were almost 10 years old and completely odorless! Of course that caused a big laughter and we continued talking and discussing other games.

I had changed my bank and had done something wrong when I tried to put the app in my smartphone. My card was blocked for 24 h. Fortunately I had another card and could do my shopping and pick up my medication at the pharmacy. When I came back I called the bank and asked what mistake I had done, it was really stupid, I had mixed up the code ! Now it works.

As I was in the city center I thought I could say hello to my old neighbors. Which I did. They have the same apartment as I had before and there were no news at all, they are the only two who see each other every day, the others are working. In my "old" apartment lives a young couple, but they have never seen them ! It's the use to live 20 years side by side without knowing each other ! Crazy. I was happy when I returned into my castle found my friends in their coffee circle, laughing and chatting. I joined the company and finished my afternoon with them.

The next day a movie was on the program. I didn't like the fact that it was a cartoon, after all, I didn't have any grandchildren with me who would be happy. It was an ancient Mexican film and so stupid that after 15 minutes I quietly sneaked out and went to my room. At four I was there again. Apparently no one liked the film, most of them didn't understand a thing, the others fell asleep and some did what I had done and came back for coffee. Finally Kim stopped the film after he also noticed that no one was watching anymore. The whole film should last 2 hours !! Apparently movies don't work that well, because or they are too difficult to understand or too childish and then it's difficult when you are 90 to concentrate on a movie which lasts so long.

We still were locked in because of the awful weather, nevertheless we played Golf !! That was really funny and the balls flew in all directions, seldom in the hole !

"room" Golf

Our nearly 100 year old won ! Was she proud ! I managed two balls and was second, probably I have to wait another 20 years for the 4th ball !

AWWWW MONDAY - WEEKEND OCTOBER 15

 ********

WEEKEND

Saturday it rained and I was quite happy not to have to go out. My neighbor from the second floor came in the afternoon to pick up the theater ticket that I had bought for her. Then we started to talk about theater and what we had seen, and stated that we had lots of things in common. Even our husbands had the same disease, Parkinson, and she too had moved in this building for the same reasons than I. They also had sold their house and moved. He died three years ago. In a way he was more lucky, because he had a heart attack and not the bitter end of Rick, loosing his mind and waiting that his heart finally stopped beating.

It was a very nice afternoon and we decided to continue to go together for other plays. Our building is so nicely located that we could walk there. We have everything in walking distance around us, all kind of doctors, a vet, the police, the city hall, the theater, the cinema, a medical center and a gallery with very chic and expensive boutiques, (which closes one after the other due to the economical crisis, and are replaced by others)

and when we come home we have this view out of our living rooms. As you can see the trees are not yet very colored.

I also went for an annual check up to the eye doctor and was happy to hear that everything was OK. When I had to pay, he didn't want to be payed with a bank card, but either cash or with a scan app in my smartphone. I had never seen or heard about that, so he showed me and it's great. A pity I didn't know that before when I was in England on holidays and had forgotten all my cards at home ! In short, go to your eye doctor and he explains you the apps on your smartphone !

I connected or she connected with me with a lady, living just in the next street, we know each other from our Facebook meetings "Live in Waterloo" ! She loves to go to the cinema and asked me if I wanted to come with her. Of course I wanted. The cinema in Waterloo is rather small but cozy and cheap and the seats are just a dream. You feel like home !

The film we watched, was very moving. The story of a 92-year-old lady who gets into a taxi in Paris and asks the 42-year-old taxi driver to drive her through Paris to all the neighborhoods where she used to live, telling her very interesting life along the way. The first very grumpy driver changed completely during the long lasting trip. You not only had a sightseeing tour through Paris, but also the difficult and interesting life of the old lady describing the old Paris and the reactions of the young man. Film music was also beautiful all American songs from the end of the 2nd world war. When the film ended, people stayed on there seats, I had never experienced that and we both also had difficulties to return into our real world.

A NICE RIDE

It was one of the most touching movie full of tenderness without falling into cheap love stories. For once a French movie was excellent.

After the movie we went to Rick's favorite restaurant "La dolce Vita" and had an Italian meal, which was very good. Most of the guests had done the same as we, first movie and then supper ! I had spent a nice evening since a long time.

On Sunday, spring break out ! We had 19° and the sun was shining as if payed for. I was very tired and had slept until nearly 10 am. Therefore I didn't do much, a little film on TV made me fall asleep again, cat Rosie who had "worked" during the whole night had put all her toy mice around her food bowls and she was very tired too. This night she probably be fresh like a rose and turn the rags upside down.

I wrote this post and then went next door to Adeline who wanted to know how the movie was, and then regretted that she hadn't come with us.

Tomorrow a new week starts, it's terrible how time flies by !

Waiting for me to come into my bed !

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND

Helps you to remember what you have done on the weekend of December 17
If you participate please put the little logo on the top of your post and leave your link.

My cold finally had enough from me and left me for another person.

I took the opportunity and went with to friends to the movies and we saw a wonderful, very touching movie "Les Intouchables". It is a sweet and sour comedy about the meeting of two opposite people who were very unlikely to meet. The first one is a paraplegic white middle aged very rich and lonely man, the other one is a young black, poor, unemployed, coming from poor suburbs and a very large family.

What makes the quality of the film, beside the humour present is the emotion you can feel, through increasingly attaching characters. The story is based upon a true story, and real characters. If you want to watch and enjoyable comedy, with very touching moments, this is a must go.There are interesting insights about arts as well (paintings, classical music, and funk music). It's really not a stupid comedy (you can see here Pictures and trailer and an article in the New York Times More than 9 million people have already seen this movie and it just came out in November. It was the best film I have seen since a long time. Chantal who is handicapped herself was very impressed and loved this film, we laughed througout the whole movie ! I think for the moment this film is only available in French, it is a very long time that Frenchs have made a good movie which crossed all the borders. Maybe it exists subtitled.

It was so cold, windy and it rained so that we just did a little walk through the Gallery and then went home.

It also had snowed for the first time, but the temperatures are too high, so it doesn't last and it's all dirty everywhere.

On Sunday it couldn't be worse outside ! I wanted to go to the market, do some window shopping too, as just before Christmas the stores are open on Sundays (business is business) Normally all shops and stores and supermarkets are closed on Sundays in Belgium. But it rain/snowed, it was grey and humid and windy, the risk to catch a cold again was too big.
So I stayed home, did our laundry, watched TV and "worked" on my PC. A rather boring Sunday.

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND ?

Helps you to remember what you have done on the weekend of February 5th. You never know if you need an alibi ! If you participate please put the little logo on the top of your post and leave your link.

The weekend started very nicely because I went to the movies together with two friends and her son, to watch the latest French comedy "Rien à déclarer" (Nothing to declare) which already had an enormous success since the movie came out last week. The cinema was packed and we laughed the whole film long !

In fact it was not a stupid comedy it went much farer and was very subtile concerning racism. It was the story of a Belgian customs officer who hated the Frenchs with all his heart. The film played at the time when there was still a border between France and Belgium and which had been abolished because of the European Union.

The funniest thing was that part of the film was done a couple of streets farer from were I live. I remember last year I had seen a stop sign saying that a film was made in this street, but thought it was a publicity for the city. Of course I went there today to have a look and find out in which house the Belgian officer "lived". But I didn't remember exactly, they all look so very much the same. (on the picture, the left officer is the Belgian and the right the French)

Besides this little walk, I couldn't go much outside. I went to the market in Braine l'Alleud which is the next little town after Waterloo and bought some apples and two collars for my cats. It was so windy almost stormy that my beret which usually is like nailed on my head was blown away and I had to run after it. Some people were really amused and laughed when they saw me running behind my red beret rolling fast on the street.

As on Monday we expect a painter who will paint all rooms and doors in our house, I already started to take off my cats and other decorations.

This is the first cat pile.

My neighbor came also over for a cup of coffee, tomorrow I have to drive her again to the hospital for her eye treatment.
