In Belgium only private Catholic schools require a school uniform. In all other schools, students can wear whatever they want.
In the UK, students wearing a school uniform is standard across the country - whether this is a public or private school
In Germany no school requires an uniform. I think the generation of my parents had more then enough of uniforms under the Hitler regime.
In Australia, all students wear uniforms in most primary schools and in every high school, government and private. That way children take pride in their appearance and don't come to school looking like bikies or film stars.
ReplyDeleteIf the uniforms are all the same then it could make sense. But here the rich parents buy them in posh shops and the less fortunate in other shops, so there is still a difference. The psychologist are against uniforms too because each child is different and should be forced to wear an uniform. Of course children have to wear normal and decent clothes and not sex appealing once !
DeleteYour last remark is very telling.
ReplyDeleteUniforms help to iron out the differences in parental income and therefore spare children from the poorest families from embarrassment.
