Near Waterloo is another little town named Genval. It is a favourite excursion place for people living in Brussels which is also nearby. There is a beautiful lake, surrounded by restaurants, cafés and picnic places. You can rent a boat and paddle around, some people even try windsurfing.
there are quite a lot of swans on the lake
There was a lonely fisherman who was interviewed by local TV.
A little boys statue
and a lonesome dog. The weather was bad and there weren't many people. But in summertime this place is fully packed ! you can hardly find a parking place.

You have probably heard about the terrible massacre which had happened in Dendermonde, a little town in the flemish part of Belgium. A 20 year old man went into the crèche "Land of tales" and stabbed wildly around him, killing two babies and a woman who tried to hold him back and injured 13 others very badly. One of the rescued babies died on saturday. The 20 year old killer hasn't said a word ever since and refuses to eat. He comes from a very normal family has a brother and a sister who can't understand either. We don't get a lot of information about the family yet. You can imagine the whole country is mourning !

Oh, that's so tragic. But I feel sorry for the family of the killer, too. They are going to feel the guilt themselves and will find it hard to live in that place. Terrible tragedy.
ReplyDeleteThe lake is beautiful even on a cloudy day and I can imagine what it would be like in summer.
a beautiful place you show us Gattina!
ReplyDeleteI hear this horrible story all the days on tv now! Everyone is under the choc! How this can be possible!
Ihear it wasn't his first kills and had project others. I don't participe to COT this week since I must help Mélissa with her homework about Marie Antoinette!
I have done some windsurfing so that would be my choice. It doesn´t look very windy there though! Thanks for the trip around Genval.

ReplyDeleteso sad.
There must be some wind there to attract windsurfers.
The windsurfing capital of the world is about 3 hours from here.
yes, this is really sad.. now we have to follow new rules in our kindergarden as well when it comes to opening doors due to this tragedy.. so sorry for those families..
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the park at Genval, a nice place for unstressing.
ReplyDeleteThe killer lived less than 10 kilometers from my home. He probably first killed a old woman in Vrasene, this is the village were our little girl is in the kindergarden at Friday. Don't wonna think about the fact he could have choosen this town instead of Dendermonde.
I loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI thought all the crazy killer people were in the United States.
So sad about the killings. Sometimes we just dont understand why. I love your photos, very nice place for fishing or just take a stroll and relax.
