WORDLESS WEDNESDAY
On December 6th the Belgian children get their gifts from Saint Nicholas, it is a very important day especially for the flemish part of the country. The french speaking part celebrates more Christmas.
But what I had never seen in my whole life was a Saint Nicholas who did hitchhiking ! He was standing there at the main street in Waterloo and tried to stop a car !
When he saw me taking the picture he smiled and made me a sign. I never knew if somebody took him, probably yes, I went in the other direction.
Just for your information the real Saint Nicholas looked like this :
and today in Belgium and Holland like this
The real story of Saint Nicholas you can find here

It's raining in sunny Spain!
Love it. I totally would have picked St. Nick up!

ReplyDeleteSt. Nick comes to visit kids there earlier than we are used to on this side of the world :)
ReplyDeleteYou should have given him a ride! Imagine Sant Nick sitting in your car! haha...

ReplyDeleteNow we know where the Pope got his fashion sense :-)
ReplyDeletemaybe saint nicholas forgot his sleigh!... errr i'm confusing him now with santa claus... it's the beard's fault!!!
ReplyDeleteThe real dude has a Buddha-like look about himself! What a great series, Gattina. I hope Santa gets his sleigh back into action before Dec. 24!
ReplyDeleteHi Gattina, Poor saint Nick looks like he is going to get wet before he gets a ride..
ReplyDeleteLooks like rain! Poor Santa Claus. Hope he got a ride. What happened you wonder? The deer on strike?
ReplyDeleteI don't do WORDLESS Wednesday any more...I found a blog that does WORDFUL Wednesday and I can actually 'talk' about the photos.
Love this share Gattina. You always come up with great stuff.
Ha! Ha! Saint Nicholas is very well captured by you, Gattina! I had no time these days for blogging because I was walking from shop to shop to prepare Christmas! And now I go to the post office sending to my daughter french sweeties and chocolates she will offer some to her hostfamily!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, information, and link.
ReplyDeleteSaint Nicholas hitchhiking - does that mean the the recession has hit him too and he can't buy enough hay to power up the reindeer?
if I was a kid, I think that guy would scare me!
ReplyDelete(:
Oh dear, shouldn't he have a horse or a donkey or something?
ReplyDeletegood one,,and i liked the comment by debbie..

ReplyDeleteWow! Maybe he should turn that beautiful outfit in for bus fare:-)
ReplyDeleteLOL! I would have had to pick him up! I'd be afraid of getting COAL if I left him stand there -- in the RAIN too!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!! I've never sen St. Nick hitching either. Doesn't he usually ride a white horse;)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I like the old fashioned St Nick more than the modern santa! Happy WW!
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures and the history. Didn't know about December 6 since here Santa Claus comes at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteA hitch hiking St Nick, what next. I love the beautiful white beards on the modern day St Nick. He's a picture of sartorial Christmas elegance and finery.
ReplyDeleteTo Ms. Gattina
ReplyDeleteI have read some of your posts. I would like to revisit the same.
If you like short stories and paintings, then a short visit to my blogs would be a good idea.
Naval Langa
I saw 5 Santas on a zebra crossing the other day.
ReplyDeleteI hope it was a good sign he made at you!
Santa hitchhiking in the rain. The recession is bad. He can't afford to maintain his sleigh & reindeer .....
