What I saw was the benediction of tablets, smart and other phones in a church in a little town near Namur. The priest was blessing the devices which people hold up sitting on their benches in the church.
Then the priest walked through the rows and sprinkled the tablets etc with holy water ! Apparently the water didn't do any damage because nobody complained.
The priest was proud of his idea, that's what he told to the reporter, because he never had so many people in the church ! He said that the church should go with the time and be modernized. I agree, but they should start with more important things then tablets ! At least the normally empty church was full and it wouldn't surprise me if other priests would follow this idea ! Belgium is a catholic country, but there are less and less people going to church.
The journalist ended his reportage with the words : The holy virgin Maria will not appear anymore in a grotto but on tablets now ! So please pay attention !

Haha, the water would sizzle and evaporate as it hit my tablet. I think next weekend, one church here has a blessing of the animals where people take their pets to be blessed. It is very popular.
ReplyDeleteHi Gattina - a novel idea for sure ... it wouldn't encourage me to go to the Church ... if it brings worshippers in - then fine ... and good luck to them - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI would have thought you might want to go to church to get away from tablets, mobiles etc! Thought the final comment from the reporter was so funny. Hope you are enjoying the weather. I'm assuming it is the same as we are having here - warm and blue skies.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever next??? I can understand cats and dogs going to church to be blessed though I would never get Shibella there. But gadgets?? I want my new vacuum cleaner blessed so it will have a long happy life cleaning up cat hairs.
ReplyDeleteI know about beneditions of animal, cars, houses........but smarphone!!! please...
ReplyDeleteI guess I've learned something new today. Never heard of such a thing, but if it makes people happy who am I to suggest otherwise??
ReplyDeleteHa haha! Yes he should definitely start with more important things, like my PC which keeps breaking down. Or my email program which won't hook up in our new home. I'd go to church for that blessing.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh - really?!
