SHOES ARE MADE FOR WALKING ?

Letter S

I don't know if I am an exception, but I am not a shoe fan at all and I really don't care about shoes. One of my best friends has at least one hundred pairs of shoes of all kinds and each time she sees a shoe shop she absolutely needs a new pair of shoes, boots, sandals or whatever, it depends the season. When I go shopping with her I avoid streets with shoe shops !

Of course I also have shoes, already to protect my poor little feet from gravel, sand and cobbles and in any case especially in winter, also from the cold. I have 4 pairs of shoes for going out, two for winter and two for summer/spring. The rest are comfortable shoes two pairs for summer, two for spring and autumn and boots for winter.

I don't wear high heals anymore I used to when I was working just to be taller than my bosses. It's always nicer to look down on them than looking up ! That's psychological. I am already tall without heels. Of course I pay attention that the shoe looks nice on my feet and fit to my legs. But here also ends my interest in shoes. The worst thing is that I don't even see shoes. You can walk besides me in slippers for 20 years and I wouldn't even realize. I never look at shoes.

Most women think that a shoe is very important to complete the general outfit. I only see the top and bottom but never down to the feet. It also happened several times to me that I went with slippers to the office or shopping, the worst was when I went to the office in pink slippers with a cute cat face and with a fur collar around. I looked very elegant with my "posh" suit.

My mother was a shoe addict and we found over 60 pairs of shoes she had never worn when she died. I read somewhere that being a shoe addict is based on a lack of love in childhood. Anyway each and every thing which doesn't work with people are based on unhappy childhoods. She also was a handbag fan !

There are people addicted to drugs, alcohol and other stuff but there is also a shoe addiction. There are even help groups called the "Anonymous shoe addicts".

Until recent years nobody knows exactly when, shoes were not worn by most of the world's population—largely because they could not afford them. Only with the advent of mass production, making shoes available very cheaply, has shoe-wearing become predominant.

The world's oldest leather shoe was found in a cave in Armenia in 2008 and is believed to date to 3,500 BC.

Definitively I don't belong to this category of women like :

- Christina Aguilera who has 750 pairs of shoes
- Paris Hilton owns around 2,000
- Imelda Marcos, more than 1,000 pairs of designer shoes, according to Time magazine.
- Danielle Steel owns 6,000 pairs of Louboutins (I didn't know what it was !). That's a lot of shoes for a woman who probably spends all of her time at her keyboard.

Overcoming an addiction can be very difficult, but it can be done. Reward yourself. Hell, why not go shopping for a nice pair of … gloves ?

Here we have people dressed to kill and walking in Nikes' . lol Foot comfort comes before foot elegance for most smart women.
I only see people working in law offices or government or financial orgs models and movie stars who still dress to kill every day and wearing shoes to match outfits . Most people today dress for comfort.
I see many old women with crooked feet and bunions because they wore high heels most of their lives.
So is it worth it?? I don't know.
It's a personal choice I guess like everything else in life.lol

Interesting post. I have lots of handbags with cats on but don't think I'm an addict. I have given up high heels though I am not very tall but I like comfort now and don't want to fall off my shoes.
Lots of people here prefer to go bare foot even if they have shoes but that,s the climate. Looking at old school photos some children, always boys, have no shoes on usually because they have hidden them in the bush to pick up on the way home.

Good post, Gattina. I used to take notice of my shoes (matching etc) when I was younger (about a year ago, lol!) Now all I care about is comfort. I do have comfortable smart shoes, but have a friend who said if I had daughters, they'd not been seen dead with me wearing these. Ha ! Have a great, foot-comfortable day. (((Hugs))) Jo

I can refute the theory shoes addict=lack of love, I have/had plenty of both.....LOL

My daughter is/was a shoe addict and she didn't lack love as a child so I don't go along with that theory. I like shoes but I don't go overboard about like you. I also go for comfort. We didn't wear shoes growing up in Sydney except when we were going into town.

Yes, shoes are made for walking! My shoes are for work (Berks) and for exercise (sneakers.) Good idea about looking down on bosses, but then, my boss and I get along fine, so I don't really need to... {:-Deb

Sneakers and hiking boots here. Sandals in summer. I don't even own a decent looking pair of boots for going out in the winter. I'm a take me as I am woman. No frills.

I spend my life in sneakers chasing JDaniel. All my dress shoes sit waiting for an event to go to.

Not an addict, but I like a nice pair of shoes - comfort comes first though.

What a funny cartoon!

I really like shoes, and I have a lot of them. Mostly, that's because I have trouble getting rid of them. My husband makes me go through the closet and get rid of a few pairs every year. But they still fit, so it isn't easy.

He just wants me to donate a pair every time I buy one. Lately, I've been doing pretty well at that.

I would guess that I buy 3-4 pairs of shoes a year. Not quite an addiction, I guess, but definitely a strong interest.

My addiction items are candles, soap, and shampoo. I don't buy them any more because I ran out of storage room!

I am also not a shoe fan. I have small feet and it is a pain to find shoes, since most styles only purchase one in my size!

Well I am not much into shoes but boots and sandals are another story. But I definitely do now own 6000 pairs!! LOL I would need a house just for the shoes.

Cute cartoon. I'm not a shoe person either.

Well... there something I don't think about every day! Shoes! Actually, I do - every time I go out - as I have to get 2 pairs of shoes on 2 little pairs of feet... and it is often a struggle! And then I just quickly slip into mine and we are off....

S is for Sorry.

You know why!

I wrote why on my blog in 2 or 3 posts.

I understand what you're saying but I want you to know you can say anything you please anywhere chez moi; it doesn't matter what the post says you can tell your life story too if you like!

In future I will email you, but please feel free just to comment openly, unless it's very personal.

Many thanks Gattina :)

Oh I am a big shoe fan. Love shoes, boots, sandals.

I love your reason for wearing high heels at work! Unfortunately it would mean I would have to wear shoes with 20cm heels and I don't think that would be safe!

I'm with you about the shoes, I don't own that many pairs.

I have such bad feet! I have had surgery on one several years ago and had some of my toes shortened, but now they are as bad as they were before. And that's only on ONE foot. The other foot needs to be rebuilt, but I keep putting it off because the recoup is 6 months!
I hate cruel shoes. I only wear sensible shoes if I can find some that actually fit!!

I'm not real big on shoes either. I used to love them, but now I just rely on the advice of my podiatrist for shoe shopping. I'm much more comfortable and pain free that way!

Since I work at home, I can go barefoot all day. When I go out, it's converse shoes. I can't even handle short heels anymore. But, I do like a cute shoe when I see one.

I like shoes but you are right . why not go shopping for a nice ...handbag , even though it is just as bad imo. some people have a lot of purses too .

I definitely recognize someone wearing a nice pair of high shoes though . I think shoes look nice but I only have one pair of shoes that I wear all the time for comfort and those are my running shoes :)

I have been getting good use of my winter boots lately .

Take care Gattina and have a great weekend !

I'm with you.

I have two pairs of Keen's that I wear 99.9 percent of the time.

Sometimes I get crazy and wear a pair of tennis shoes I have.

I have five pairs of shoes in my closet and I'm forever thinking I should throw out the black heels. They are covered in dust - ha!

Thanks for the cute stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "S".

I appreciate the smile on this drizzy, grey Arizona afternoon.

A+

I, too, have very few shoes--less than you. In Summer I wear Chacos almost exclusively. They look like sandals but are way more comfortable and supportive. Mine have double black straps so they can look rather dressy. I can walk in these forever and even wear them hiking.
I have a friend who loves shoes and has many. I'll be sharing that cartoon with her!
