A hero in my real life ?? Even at a second glance or more glances I really don't know any !
According to the dictionary a hero is :
1 ) a remarkably brave person: somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown great courage, strength of character, or another admirable quality
a war hero
2. somebody admired: somebody who is admired and looked up to for outstanding qualities or achievements
I fortunately had no war hero in my family. Germans didn't like their supposed to be heros. There also was nobody who became famous because he saved lives or created schools in Africa. We are all very normal persons.
And around me amongst my friends or people I know, I can't find an hero either. The only person I admire for her courage and how she handles her life is my girlfriend who got polio at the age of 3. She had a terrible start in life with 5 or 6 operations at her leg, to get it longer so that she could walk at least with crutches. While others are complaining about their backaches or other things, she enjoys life and has an amazing courage. Never a complaint, she never seems to be tired ! She does everything I do and even much more, but she has to do it with a double or triple effort due to her handicap ! Through all these sufferings in her childhood and youth, she also has become a very wise person and is very mature. You have a problem, she will solve it.
And if it hadn't been enough her husband had a terrible car accident which left him, after being in hospital for 3 years without knowing in what state he would come out, with a brain of a 6 year old boy and autistic behaviours. Physically he is completely normal and looks like before his accident. She has to prepare his clothes to dress, and take care of him as if he was a boy of 6 only he is an adult and her husband. Imagine ! Fortunately this accident made him a happy man easy to deal with. He always smiles is very friendly and never agressiv. I say fortunately, because there are other brain damaged people who became very violent and difficult.
She also has two now adult sons of 22 and 24 who really have a very special relationship with their mother and are very caring. They had to help her already when they were small children. She is the kind of person I admire, and am very happy to be her friend.

ReplyDeleteI'll have mine up in the morning.
Your friends is indeed a hero!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Fun Monday!
She sure sounds like a hero to me!
ReplyDeleteReading about what other people go through in their lives makes me realise I should really quit complaining and just get on with it!
ReplyDeleteIf that isn't a HERO then, I don't know what is. She should be your hero Gattina...and she is. Anyone that has acommplished this much without a complaint and striving to survive her everlasting situation has got to be a !Hero! [a hero doesn't have to be someone who has gone to war-- as in bang bang, you're dead type war....your friend has fought a war within herself, and continues to battle for survival and is winning!!]
ReplyDeleteOf all the times I said on my blog I don't like whiners, your friend certainly isn't...she's tops.
That friend is a testament to courage.
ReplyDeleteNow see, Gattina... that IS a hero. She's the BEST kind of hero. Someone who inspires you... who makes you HOPE that if you were in her place, you would behave the same way! I hope she gets to read this!
ReplyDeleteWow indeed!!! There are some amazing people out there and your friend is most definetly one of them!!
ReplyDeleteYour friend sounds like a hero to me! She has overcome a lot and is still dealing with things well.
ReplyDeleteOrdinary person dealing with extraordinary circumstances to the best of her ability!
That was very moving, Gattina. Your friend is indeed a hero and a wonderful person.
ReplyDeleteWow, she is definitely a hero. It seems so unfair that some people get more than their fair share of trials doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteYour friend sounds a wonderful lady and she had had to cope with so much. I can see why you admire her courage.
ReplyDeleteshe sounds like an amazing woman and a very special one, how blessed you are to have her in your life.
ReplyDeleteKind of puts our little aches and pains in perspective, huh?
ReplyDeleteShe is such a wonderful hero. Gattina, I am sure you have been to Holland. Have you ever gone to the Anne Frank house or hiding place? Have you taken pictures?
