SKYWATCH - FRIDAY's FAVORITE FIVE - FIVE ON FRIDAY

1. This week was nice and relax. I felt in holiday mood, it was so warm that I could live outside ! Which I did. I carried all my stuff, computer, cables, mousepad etc outside and put it on the big table under the pergola. There it is always shady and a little wind blowing. I did my posts and noticed that I was very much behind with my photos to be put in different folders, in short my computer was a mess !

Mr. G's dark neutral umbrella makes shade for the screen, my umbrellas are light with flowers ! In my "outside" living room we also use to play scrabble when it's warm.

Try to sort out all the pictures and put them in folders !!

2. The next day it was the same and I continued while purring with my cats in the blue sky. In the afternoon Nicole came, it was too hot on her terrace and she didn't want to be locked in she too appreciates light and sunshine. And while we chatted and talked about our smartphones and the progress I had made discovering more and more apps, she uses her smartphone only as a phone, without internet. I told her that she has the same facilities with her phone as with her tablet, but there was nothing to do, for the moment a phone is a phone and a tablet a tablet, I had already managed with some effort that she can use the tablet ! we had a nice afternoon.

3. I still had some toys from my grandson when he was a toddler, and they took space in the garden shed. I put them all together and went to the charity shop in favour for battered women. They are always happy when they get nearly new toys. One of it was quiet noisy when I brought it in, it played music and horned and people laughed.

My cat Arthur should make a selfie ! But he wasn't in the mood. He probably found it funny that I crawled behind him under the kitchen table and hold the smartphone in front of his nose. The result is not that good but still.

4. As usual hot weather never lasts long and so it was this time too, from 30°C we dropped to 15°C after a terrible rain. It rained so strongly that I had to close the shutters I thought the drops would break the glass, I could hardly see my neighbor's house on the other side of the street, and the street looked like a stream !

Fortunately I had just prepared my outside "living room" for the night and had taken everything in, nothing was damaged. But my neighbor had water in her basement and there were other regions badly flooded. Nothing in comparison to Texas of course, these poor people, what a disaster.

5. As usual we had our scrabble group, one was missing but was replaced by Tosca the black dog, not a devil at all. She was not so interested in our scrabble game but in the cookies which were served later with the coffee. I lost, so next time I must win ! It was a very pleasant afternoon this time in Mireille's apartment. Mireille although half blind won again ! She really is amazing !

HODGEPODGE

1. Can you believe we're rolling in to the Labor Day weekend? What's a project you'll labor over this fall?
I wished I could roll into Labor Day but this would be the first of May and start spring and summer again !! Besides thinking of holidays I have no projects for fall I hate this season and wished I could retire in a grotto and wake up at OUR Labor Day !!

2. Tell us about the best perks you ever had in a job?
I think it was the day when the General Manager announced me that I became "Sales Assistant for a part of Europe, Germany, France, Italy and Austria. Ah yes and then after 10 years I got a golden brooch with the company letter and a ruby on it.

3. August 31st is National South Carolina Day. Have you ever been to SC? Any desire to go? According to Southern Living, these are the top ten things to do in South Carolina..

Explore Charleston, bike, golf or relax on Hilton Head Island, see the beach and the boardwalk at Myrtle Beach, visit the state museum in the capital city Columbia, observe the wildlife and natural beauty of the Ace Basin, take a walk or hop on a trolley and check out Greenville's charming main street, visit Fort Sumter where the Civil War began, stroll through Pearl Fryar's Topiary Garden in Bishopville leaving time to check out The Button Museum, also in Bishopville, see Morgan Island (also known as Monkey Island)-home to nearly 4000 Rhesus monkeys.

I have been in 28 States or more over the years when my aunt was still alive. From the Niagara Falls to California, Florida,  from New York to Montana and Arizona. But South Carolina we missed. I am sure we have seen enough ! Even the spitting old Faithful !

Which is most appealing to you today? If you're a SC native, resident, or frequent visitor what would you add to the list?
Nothing as I am a European native !

4. Beef, pork, country-style, barbecued, baby back, spare or short...your favorite kind of rib? What's a dish you enjoy that really 'sticks to your ribs'?

I am not a cannibal, I sometimes eat a grilled steak or chicken pieces on the barbecue,

5. What's one important skill you think every person should have? Why?
being a good talker that helps in life (of course if there are too many chatterboxes around it will be a little difficult)

6. Insert your own random thought here.
I have a lazy day in front of me, laying in the garden, and keep company to my cats.  Maybe it's the last warm day so even thinking is too tiring !

DRUMCLIFFE - GALWAY IRELAND

DRUMCLIFFE

When we stopped at Drumcliffe, which is set against the striking backdrop of the Benbulben Mountains, I didn't really understand why we stopped here ! The reason was because here was the final resting place of  W.B.Yeates (1865–1939), who is buried in the graveyard of St. Columba's Church of Ireland church. Although Yeats died in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France in January 1939, his remains were brought home to Ireland by the Irish Naval Service and re-interred at Drumcliff in 1948 in the presence of a large number of local people and dignitaries which included the Minister for External Affairs, Seán MacBride, who represented the Government.

GALWAY

When we arrived in Galway, we were lucky, the sun was shining and the city had such cheerful vibes !

Even from the bus I saw brightly painted pubs heave with live music, and restaurants and cafes with front-row seats for observing buskers and street theatre. Remnants of the medieval town walls lie between shops selling handcrafted Claddagh rings, books and musical instruments, bridges arch over the salmon-stuffed River Corrib, and a long promenade leads to the seaside suburb of Salthill, on Galway Bay, the source of the area's famous oysters.

WEEKEND AUGUST 26 - MACRO MONDAY

I had a nice warm weekend with an anniversary celebration of our Facebook group "Vivre à Waterloo" (Living in Waterloo)

Meanwhile I had found out that it is not all bad about Facebook, I was the first to pretend it and refused to become a member. Then I was "forced" to subscribe to be able to see the photos of my grandson, and just used it for this purpose. Ever since I am member in my group I think it's great. There are so many helpful people and if I have a problem I just ask and there is always somebody to help.

This weekend we celebrated the third anniversary of the group. Here I am with Monique our friend and apparently am surprised when I saw the cake !

One of our group member had baked and decorated this masterpiece ! I told her she could open a bakery ! Phil the founder of the group was really touched.

After the supper we ate the cake as dessert ! It was delicious !  We could stay outside the whole evening for once it was warm !

Inspector Butch was there too, he is a 12 year old police dog and had worked for the Waterloo police for 10 years. Now he is retired and lives with Phil. On his "scarface" you can see the signs of a hard life ! He was very friendly and didn't even check us for bombs or drugs !

Ever since I have a smartphone which is not very long ago, I get updated about the life of 6 1/2 year old Toby, my grandson. For the moment he is in Bali with his parents and apparently has a lot of fun ! I think Whatsapp is a great invention, it allows far living grandmas to participate in the life of their grandchildren. Apparently he likes to play chess !

Sunday was a fleamarket in the city center and the shops open they had put out their last summer stuff. I only saw it from the car, from far, I had no intention to go there. Instead I met with Nicole in Braine the next little town on the market, because  she wanted to buy a cardigan. Of course she couldn't find the cardigan she wanted but bought a blouse, a T-Shirt and trousers ! It didn't ruin her because each piece was for 5 € ! I also found a T-shirt and bought it because of the inscription on the front "The rebel in you will never die" ! which I think is the truth.

We then had lunch in a Greek restaurant and it was very good before we went home. I spent the rest of the day on the terrace, while the cats slept under different bushes and Mr. G. was glued on the TV for Formular 1 ! That's the one and only sport show he watches on TV.

and it was even in Belgium in Francorchamps.
