HOLIDAYS IN EASTBOURNE - MEET AGAIN

We had wonderful weather and I could warm up my frozen bones from Scotland ! I wanted to do what I do each year, walk along the seafront and go to all the places I love so much.

The first thing I discovered was that the once so beautiful Pier (see above) which had partly burnt down in 2014, had not as promised by the all the politicians (on TV) built up again as it had been before, no, it was sold to a rich Sheikh who starts to own slowly whole Eastbourne ! Money always win.

In a particular sense of humour he had had written "Thank you for visiting Sheikh’s Pier.”which you could read when you went out !

Now the Pier looks naked in the middle, there is nothing but pick nick tables with benches, where you can eat and drink the food you bought on the Pier and not your own.

After that I walked along the seafront and there were more people as usual as the Eastbourne Air Show had begun. People were sitting on the beach and everywhere they could to watch the airplanes performing. I was not so interested by the airplanes but more in the drawings they made in the sky.
I took a some pictures and before I got sunburnt, I walked along the main street, where nothing seemed to had changed. Still the old souvenir shops, I nearly know by heart;

Then I took my bus home and later we went for the traditional Friday Fish and Chips to the habour.

  1. Hi Gattina - the pier is 'sad' isn't it ... Airbourne was quite full and people seemed to be having fun ... I went down yesterday with some friends - and I enjoyed seeing the planes. Luckily we've had reasonable weather - I'm glad you got out for fish and ships ... enjoy the weekend - cheers Hilary

  2. Too bad the pier was partly burned down but looks like there were many people enjoying the visit. I like watching air show. Drawings they make are quite impressive for sure!

  3. Very interesting about the pier. How could that have happened? Should not an English pier be kind of English owned?

  4. Quite a change in weather for this part of the trip -- and that is good. At least the Shiekh (or more likely his hired publicist) has a "punny' sense of humor. Shakespeare indeed!

  5. Glad to hear your trip went well despite the cold on the loch. I have just been catching up on all your posts. Pleased your getting the same weather in Eastbourne as we are having in London so good to feel the heat of the sun on the body.Really sorry are paths missed one another this Summer.

  6. Is the sheik going to build up that middle part, or is it gone forever? The air show sounds fun to watch; funny how you can not bring your own food on to the pier.

  7. Such a shame that part of our heritage has now been sold.

  9. Money buys everything these days. It is such a shame. Hope you enjoyed your fish and chips. We always have to have them when we visit England.

  10. There is an article about Sheikh Abid Gulzar in this week's International Express. He has certainly made some unpopular changes to a beautiful old pier.
