Burglars snort man's ashes, thought it was cocaine

MIAMI (Reuters) - Burglars snorted the cremated remains of a man and two dogs in the mistaken belief that they had stolen illegal drugs. The ashes were taken from a woman's home. The thieves took an urn containing the ashes of her father and another container with the ashes of her two Great Danes, along with electronic equipment and jewelry.

"The suspects mistook the ashes for either cocaine or heroin. It was soon discovered that the suspects snorted some of the ashes believing they were snorting cocaine". I wonder what effect that made ???

ATHENS (Reuters) - A Cypriot monk caught at a Greek airport with the skeletal remains of a nun in his baggage on the weekend. He said he was taking the relics of a saint back to his monastery. The 56-year-old Cypriot was detained at Athens airport on Sunday after security staff discovered a skull wrapped in cloth and skeletal remains in a sheet inside his baggage.
The remains were those of a nun who died four years ago. She was not a saint but had once been a nun at a Cypriot convent. The monk was freed after being charged with theft and desecrating the dead, a misdemeanor in Greece. He was also suspended from his monastic duties for three months for going away without leave. Mybe she was his mistress, and he wanted a souvenir ?

FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

more participants at Susanne at Living to tell the Story.

1. As usual during our tea ceremony after acqua gym we had our weekly chat and this time came up how often did we take a bath or showered when we were children. As we all have more or less the same age, not everybody had a bathroom when we were kids, but our kids take showers everyday. So I came up with my question how often should a baby be bathed because apparently it is not good anymore to bath a baby everyday. Of course all grandmas protested and said that this hasn't changed at all and babies should be bathed each day. In our group is a midwife. She is not only a simple midwife but she also gives conferences on meetings from midwive associations from all over Europe. And she answered : it depends the country and the pediatrician. So now I know that Belgian babies are bathed everyday, while other babies are bathed twice a week. As a freshly baked grandma I learn every day.

2. I started working on my "Blog Book" and I have to admit that it takes a lot of time, I am still busy with doing the cover. But as the weather is as usual wet and cold, it's a nice occupation.

3."Sales" are still going on in Belgium until the end of the month, I did a little window shopping, but didn't find anything interesting to buy. What is funny now is, that there are "Sales" on "Sales" ! It gets cheaper and cheaper.

4. We had our "girls" meeting this time at my place and around a cup of Karkade tea (from Egypt) and some cookies we tried to make the world a better place with a lot of laughter.
Mr. G. was "locked in" his office not to disturb, and wondered why he got the impression to hear a bunch of giggling teenagers.

5. Yesterday we celebrated the 81st birthday of a classmate in my painting group ! She had baked a delicious cake and brought 2 bottles of champagne ! I was really surprised that she was already so old, she looks much younger and is full of humor and laughter. The cake and Champagne disappeared in no time and we had a lot of fun too.

I don't know if our paintings turned into modern art after the birthday party !

GOOD OLD TIMES ?

Letter : O

I always wonder when people start to talk about the "Good old Times". I don't think that they were so good for many of us. If you had to go through World War II or the after war times, there certainly weren't good times.

When I think that my mother didn't have a washing machine, had to boil the laundry in a huge pot, and then rince it in the bath tube, which we were lucky to have, I don't think that she called this the good old time.

I really find nothing in "good old times" besides the music. That was and still is very good, because even the teenies of today are still listening to groups like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Abba etc. Even Elvis is still there, although most of the young people have only known him dead. The Queens and Freddy Mercury are still "in" and Elton John's concerts are always sold out and not only for an "old" public. And all their today's music is coming from the "oldies" of my generation.

What people regret in their "good old times" is finally the fact that they are old themselves now and at that time they were young.

I personally think that each period of life has good or sometimes also a bad times, that is life. Actually I enjoy "modern times" very much !

MY WORLD - Escape to India

more participants here

There is always the same to show in my world actually, it's all grey and rainy. So I decided to escape to India to find a colorful and welcoming place.

You would never believe it, it's a shop in a very industrial area

an elephant greets me, which is already more exotic than a cow

The first thing you see inside is a fountain with lots of green plants, banks and seats around.

a warm and zen atmosphere surrounds you

Behind this curtain is a bedroom

nicely displayed

a writing corner and a buddha watching

here behind are lots of ornaments desplayed

carpets and cushions

Jewelry and textiles.

After a visit to this beautiful shop, which doesn't give you the feeling to be in a shop, I always feel better.

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND

Helps you to remember what you have done on the weekend of January 14. You never know if you need an alibi ! If you participate please put the little logo on the top of your post and leave your link.

It was a rather quiet weekend, with this cold and rainy weather it's not a pleasure to go outside and visit things, I feel like a robot with a low running battery.

On Saturday we had a visit from Mr. G's Ferrari friend, who informed us, that he wanted to buy two new cars, which is not exceptional for him. In the 6 years we know him he had at least changed 7 times his and his wifes car, once he buys them big, then he needs some smaller once so we have known him driving cars from Landrover size to the Mercedes Smart, where you need a shoehorn to get inside. There had also be a Mercedes, a fat BMW and a Harley Davidson which, once he had bought it was to heavy for him to lift it up. The only car he still has since the beginning is his beloved Ferrari. Never mind, some people buy toy cars others real once. That's the boy in a man, with money.

Now he wants to have a very, very small car, because petrol is expensive (during the oil crisis, it was expensive too) and he thinks about buying two little electric cars. I wonder how long this quirk will last, I'll keep you informed.

Between two showers, I also got rid of the Christmas garland which was still shining in our hedge .

Since all Christmas signs are now gone in our home, I also had to change the decoration in the basket at the entrance which I always decorate for the seasons. I made it very colorful to compensate the grey colors outside. Rosie was my supervisor.

I got from two "virtual" friends the link to two companies who can print your blog as a book. I didn't know that this exists and of course had to try one out. It was fortunately only a trial, because when I had choosen the cover color I forgot to also choose a picture for the cover, and the program choose one picture out of my blog and guess what it choose .... the one and only from a Wordless Wednesday, showing a man peeing against a tree ! Imagine this would have been the final book cover to enter in my family history !

Now of course I am very busy to select the posts I want to be in the book, it's quiet a challenge and I am very excited to see the result. But this will not be for tomorrow, as I have more than 1000 posts to sort out.

I also went over to Dominique to explain some things she wanted to do on her computer and she didn't know how and ended up with a cup of tea and the latest news.

WATER WATER EVERYWHERE

When I was a teenager I liked the song "Water Water everywhere, not a drop to drink". It must have been a song from the 60th. Unfortunately I couldn't find the right one on YouTube, there were many songs with water everywhere, but not the one I wanted.

It's just because wherever I look I am surrounded by water. I look out of my window and I see water on the street, I go shopping there are plenty of puddles on the parking. I look like a kangaroo when I try to reach the entrance to the shops.

This morning I opened the stores and what did I see, a van from the water service standing in front of my neighbor's house. She suddenly had noticed a quiet deep hole, which was suddenly there over night and her basement is full of water too. Fortunately she is the only one in the street who has water in her basement, I mean of course for her it's not really a fortune, as there was no gold bars found in this hole either. They put a string around so that nobody would fall into the hole and only God knows when it will be closed.

The South of Belgium had floods and even only 20 km from Waterloo, the little town Tubize had floods again. I say again, because they had a very big one just one month ago, where people had lost everything and just started to buy new stuff, which is gone now again with the second flood.

On TV I see the floods from here, from Germany and from Queensland in Australia. Of course that's a far bigger scale than our little Belgium, but people suffer the same way.

I can't see water anymore ! I decided not to take baths or showers until we suffer from drought and only drink beer and wine. I became allergic against water, just like my cats, they don't like water either ! That's why Arthur takes only a bath without water.

A "friend" of mine sincerely believes that the end of the world is coming and she is not even a Jehova witness. I told her that I probably will then be so old that I die anyway before.

Meanwhile I still have feet and no flippers and I can still walk over to Dominique without wearing a diver suit. For bathsuits it's far too cold and I still can drive my car and don't need a boat.

As long as I haven't seen a fish swimming besides me when I walk, I will keep my optimism.
