MY WORLD

The weather is cool and sunny so I went with my friend to Spy which lays on the way to the Ardennes.

Here in 1886, in a cavern, two archeologists found two nearly perfect Neanderthal skeletons (man and woman) at the depth of 4.88 m (16 ft.), with numerous implements of the Mousterian type.

We thought we would walk through the beautiful woods, farmlands and then visit the cavern.

We had lunch in this nice restaurant which was called "Irish Pub"

saw nice farm houses

admired cows who smelled country air

followed the path leading to the cavern where our ancestor had lived but couldn't find it. (we were not the only once)

So we admired the still green trees despite the fact that it is almost end of october and then returned home.

  1. I'm glad you weren't the only ones who couldn't find the cavern, Gattina, but it must have been a disappointment.
I've often heard about these Neanderthal skeletons. We learned about them in school and I've read quite a bit later.
You seem to have had a lovely day for a drive, however, and you have some lovely pictures. The field with the cows looks so lovely under that wonderful blue sky.

  2. Sorry you didn't find those "old" guys, but it does look as though you had a really beautiful day and you surely did get some lovely photos! So peaceful and amazingly green for this time of year! Beautiful blue skies! Hope you have a great week, Gattina!

  5. A nice walk even though you missed the cavern. I like the name of the place - "Spy."

  6. What a shame you could not find the caverns. Hmmm. Neanderthals have been in the news lately. Apparently people of European origin have 2% Neanderthal genes. They've just discovered that.

  13. Looks like a beautiful place to explore even though you didn't find the cavern. Maybe it will give you a reason to go back and try to find it again.

  15. The next time I visit Belgium I hope we can visit the Ardennes region.

I just heard a program about other humans other than Neanderthals that contributed to the gene pool of modern man. We are very more complex in our genes than we ever imagined.

  18. A pity you could not find the cavern, do they close them up for the winter? Some can be dangerous in the wet season.
Lovely pictures of the countryside though, and as Gary says, pubs are usually good places for a meal/drink either end of the trip.
