FRIDAY's FAVE FIVE

more participants at Susanne at Living to tell the Story.

1.

I had lunch with Dominique in "La Pomme" (The Apple) and as the weather was so nice we could eat outside in their garden. I had goat cheese with honey salad, and Domi a Kentucky salad (whatever that was, except it was very good and with chicken)
I took these pictures from the inside of the Pub, because it had some new decorations like the Buddha and the motorbikes.

2.

There was also this thing which I didn't know what was and I asked the waiter. It turned out that it is a washing machine from 1930 ! That was already a big progress for the women who had to wash all their laundry by hand. On one side you had the washing drum and on the other side the spin. When I think how we wash today, we put the laundry in the machine and it comes out dry, while you watch TV or read a book ! Or do your blogging

3.

The tree behind the garden shed started to look like the tower of Pisa or like the bias head of Horatio from CSI Miami, so we thought we had to have it cut off before it fell on the roof or in the neighbor's garden. Our brave gardener did it in half an hour and cut the trunk into handy logs for our open fire.

4. I had walked on my turquoise stones with corals necklace and it had broken. I drove over to Ilona who has learned to repair jewelry. This came very much on purpose and at least my necklace looks like new and I can wear it again.

5. Last week in our painting group a responsible from Waterloo's cultural service came to ask us to paint a picture representing something out of the book "Les misérables" from Victor Hugo (there is also a musical about it) because this year Waterloo celebrates the 150 th anniversary of the book which he has written in Waterloo. There will be an exhibition in September with extraordinary items, many never seen in public before, and a lot of other activities. I did some researches during the whole week to find a picture which would inspire me for a painting and finally (thanks to Mr. Google) found one. I started the painting today.

I will paint a very skinny Cosette sharing her plate with a very skinny ..... cat !

  1. Hi Gattina,

I think the women today are simply lucky! And you had a washing machine in the 1930s! Wow. I think at that time we just had electricity! ha ha...
And I love Les Miserables. Happy painting!

  2. My friend in Germany has an old washing machine that I swear is related to this one! Her husband claims that as long as it works she cannot have a new one! Men!

  3. I remember learning to use a wringer washer, and I also remember my grandmother doing "just a few things" in the sink with a washboard.
Good luck with your painting. It sounds like a serious assignment. Looking forward to seeing it on your blog.

  4. When I lived in Indonesia I was so excited when I moved up to a washing machine almost like that one after hiring my laundry done by hand for so many years. We are so spoiled with our machines doing our washing for us. Have fun with the painting!

  9. This is a great pub! Just reading i was asking to me how I could do now without a washmachine! Impossible!
This exhibition seems so interesting! You have a nice idea with the little Cosette! Can't wait to see the different results at your shoolpainting! I posted a new report about our visit in Grasse when Mélissa and me we went at the Nice airport to catch Anaïs!

  10. I am so thankful for the advances in laundry technology!

I am glad you got your necklace fixed. I have a couple needing a new clasp.

That's neat about painting for Les Mis! That's one of my favorite books.

  11. I can't imagine doing the wash by hand, or like that. I had no dishwasher for a few years, and I didn't mind that so much, but I could never take on the laundry without the help of my whirlpools!

It looks like a nice place, and it's nice to be able to enjoy a nice salad outdoors!

I'm so glad your necklace is like new, and I'll look forward to seeing your painting!

  12. I always say that God knew what He was doing when He let me be born when He did because I just would have croaked if I had to take my laundry to the river. LOL.

That's quite the painting assignment. Have fun with it!
