BELGIAN BEER

MANIC MONDAY LINK

This weeks word is CAN

Maybe you know that Belgium is the biggest beer producer in Europe.

There are approximately 125 breweries in the country, producing about 500 standard beers. When special one-off beers are included, the total number of brands of Belgian beer exceeds 1000.

Of course the special beers are not sold in cans but like wine in bottles. The most popular once are Jupiler, Stella-Artois, and Maes and you can buy them in cans or bottles.

About 100 km from Brussels in Lustin near Namur is a Beer museum.
18.000 bottles of Belgian beer and other items about Belgian beers, like glasses, posters etc are exposed here.

There you can try and buy more then 800 brands of beers and drink about 11 on tap.
The museum also exposes a book with more than 16.000 Belgian beer names and their breweries !

And to give you an idea you have the whole list of Belgian Beers here !

  7. Cheers! Coming from Czech Republic (which is #1 in most beers drunk per person) I really enjoyed your post. I would have thought that #1 producer of beer was Germany. Hmmm, learning something new every day...

  12. Hello Gattina !
I didn't know you produce so much beer in Belgium! I adore beer because I was used to see my grandmother who was from Alsace drinking beer! Here No so many people like beer they prefer wine! I have to say our beer are not so good as yours! i like the Leffe when I go to the restaurant to eat "moules frites"! Le parti du nain a gagné dans ma petite ville mais c'est normal en face ils ne faisaient pas le poids! Dommage, j'aurais préféré voter contre le parti de Nicolas 1er!!!

  13. As an abstainer I can only appreciate the beer from afar. I have a friends that drink enough for both of us.

I understand Bush Beer is very strong. I have wondered by no one has related in to Bush the recovering alcoholic in the American whitehouse.
